INVESTIGATION(?)

Exciting night, no? Were you able to get to sleep, or did you stay up into the wee hours, seeing that far-off shimmer near the gazebos and listening to the rising rumble of whatever-that-is and wondering when it would come for you?

At least, when dawn finally comes and the shimmer is overcome by the rising light of the sun, it seems that last night wasn't the end. For you.

Instead, once it's morning proper, there's a shift -- like the breeze and the smell after a bout of sudden summer thunderstorm without the storm: the pressure and the oppressive atmosphere of yesterday is gone, just like that. But also: accompanying it a few seconds later is a clean whipcrack of sound, like giant hands clapping together. And a moment after that, you'll feel something pass overhead -- you won't be able to see anything, but anyone outside at the time will find themselves staggered by what seems to be a small shockwave spreading throughout the island.

That's not the only change that awaits you this morning, however.

You might want to get out of bed, if you haven't already, and take a proper look around.

[ Sheesh. What a morning. Xiao has been up for a while, and he's certainly thrown off by the presence of that shockwave. This doesn't look good.

He'll go ahead and step outside around the cabana area. Is there anything he will notice immediately? Also, is that feeling of malaise still present? ]

[Since our trusty manlet is so close to the ground, he’ll notice a trail of conspicuously glowing flower petals along the footpaths leading out of the cabana area.]

[ Kallamar was having a hard enough time sleeping, even if he got a bed to himself because two people in his cabin like sleeping on the floor for some reason.

The feeling of the shockwave isn't much better. ]

Ugh. What now?

[ He wanders over, possibly having to step around any late risers, and pokes his head out the door. What wonderful sight greets him? ]

[For one, he can probably see Xiao communing with deeply suspicious flora(?).]

[... well, if he hadn't already been up and about, he sure would be after that. (Perks of being a morning person, he supposes.)

Needless to say, he'll be making a beeline to where the shimmer was yesterday to see if there have been any sort of visible changes to it...]

[As Shuda steps out of Dove cabin, he’ll notice what looks like the remnants of some kind of purple magical force field dissipating from the cabana. Hm.

As for the gazebos, absolutely no trace of anything shimmering is left. Double hm.]

[Well, best to smoke them if you have them.

Or drink them, as it were. Waltaquin will make an early morning trip to the bar so she can pick up a vodka red bull for exploration energy. Er. To explore the bar area.]

She will find the bar perfectly peaceful, and the waves relaxing.]

[ Passing by little Xiao and heading to the garden to see if anything has changed there. What's up weird statues? ]

[The statues don't answer, but maybe that's because many of them have been knocked over?

With each step, the petals they're following fall and fade, and with each step, the earth seems to get more disturbed; something either huge or forceful moved through these gardens last night, shredding leaves and flowers, toppling statues, heaving up the earth in places.

The farther they go into the garden, the easier they can see what looks like an actual miniature crater near the centerpiece fountain, and someone sitting slumped next to it, silhouetted against the light of the horizon.

Why, it's almost picturesque.]

[ Well, this isn't at all ominous in the slightest. Alice'll be going to the beach and seeing what's there, or maybe looming over the horizon. ]

[The beach continues to be peaceful. Maybe she can share a red bull with Waltaquin on the sand?]

[ magolor is apparently something of a night owl, so he was up when that fun little whip crack of reality falling apart at the seams happened. joy.

which means he also gets toppled off of whatever rooftop perch he was on in the main resort area proper, but at least he manages to catch himself before landing?

now, to let the protag types handle it again ... or see what the hell it is now, considering the disturbance seems to have reached the entire island anyway. well, might as well take the meandering route closer, passing by the pool first.

At the pool, he'll probably see Crea! And absolutely nothing else, not even a seagull taking a dip.

That said, the fauna on the island does seem pretty up in arms since the shockwave -- it certainly disturbed the birds, they're rustling and calling up a storm out there. At least it seems most of them are present and no longer hiding?]

[The pool contains: all of the pool equipment, one (1) Magolor, and not much else of note. Enjoy your morning floaties!]

[He's carefully stepping around Xiao and his investigation of the weird new flowers (good luck small buddy) and heading directly towards the buffet area. Thankfully not to eat (yet), but let's make sure it's all still here ]

[Aside from Beel's last visit, the buffet area looks like it was undisturbed! Beel may continue to wreckfast his breakfast as much as he wants.]

[Huh. Well, the vibes are still off here, especially when a shockwave pulses all over the island. Billy may just be a normal man, but he knows power fuckery when he sees it.

Since other people are investigating the garden, how's the beach looking? Any corpses?]

[The beach is full of cute girls enjoying vodka red bulls! Presumably. No corpses here.]

[ Ibuki wanders off to the book café and its coffee bar, intent on seeing if there's anything about the curious haze from yesterday, and whatever happened just now, mentioned in any of the books. Even if they're supposed to be for light reading, he didn't see any reason to not check. Does he see anything on the way or in there? Or read maybe?

Either way he feels like reading today. ]

[The books don't mention the haze or anything untoward about the island, but he can probably find a lot of information about the bird species that are incredibly disturbed both from the fuss last night and the shockwave just now.

There's probably a few seagulls fighting on the roof of the book cafe, honestly.]

[Not long after Merlin is found, a nearby palm tree (or rather, the speaker in it) clears its throat with a lengthy crackle. There's something like a dramatic pause, or maybe just contemplation of the mess here.]

Seems to me like somebody's taken matters into their own hands after the island did its thing yesterday. Thanks for being a sacrifice to the cause, Merlin.

Tell you what, why don't you try figuring out who did it? I'll give you, say, an hour or so. Should be enough time.

GARDEN INVESTIGATION

[Unless one of the others stops him, he's leaning down to take a look at the body, specifically what's going on with the blood. Is there an obvious wound, or did Merlin get slam-dunked into the ground?]

First things first: not a bad showing for a murder investigation. I'll give it a B, considering the lack of law enforcement.

Next, let's talk about sacrifices.

It seems like many of you were still reluctant to do more than wait and watch until the island itself gave you a sign -- and I'm here to tell you that what you saw yesterday, and last night, is only the tip of the iceberg. So we decided to take matters into our own hands, this time. Think of it as a tutorial.

Oh, and things have changed, now that we've had time to observe all of you, and how the island reacts to you. We're going to need more than one a week.

But I know how so many of you are still reluctant to kill, huh?

[There's what sounds like a put-upon sigh; the speaker is evidently in a bit of a mood today.]

Let's do it this way, then. The second sacrifice is going to be the murderer -- if you can find them. One of the things that keeps a society from collapsing is having a little justice now and then. Killers, though? Just make sure you get away with it, and we'll have you back home by the end of this, with a few bonuses for your hard work.

Anyone near the garden will just get to watch Beelzebub morph, for a brief moment, with a pulse of demonic energy. Horns twist out of his head, and insect wings sprout from his back in time with the black stripes that dot his skin, his entire outfit seemingly changing.

He does this simply to fly up, grab the nearest palm tree speaker with one hand, rip it cleanly from the tree, and throw it straight to the ground with enough force to shatter it.]
