INVESTIGATION(?)

Exciting night, no? Were you able to get to sleep, or did you stay up into the wee hours, seeing that far-off shimmer near the gazebos and listening to the rising rumble of whatever-that-is and wondering when it would come for you?

At least, when dawn finally comes and the shimmer is overcome by the rising light of the sun, it seems that last night wasn't the end. For you.

Instead, once it's morning proper, there's a shift -- like the breeze and the smell after a bout of sudden summer thunderstorm without the storm: the pressure and the oppressive atmosphere of yesterday is gone, just like that. But also: accompanying it a few seconds later is a clean whipcrack of sound, like giant hands clapping together. And a moment after that, you'll feel something pass overhead -- you won't be able to see anything, but anyone outside at the time will find themselves staggered by what seems to be a small shockwave spreading throughout the island.

That's not the only change that awaits you this morning, however.

You might want to get out of bed, if you haven't already, and take a proper look around.

[ Sheesh. What a morning. Xiao has been up for a while, and he's certainly thrown off by the presence of that shockwave. This doesn't look good.

He'll go ahead and step outside around the cabana area. Is there anything he will notice immediately? Also, is that feeling of malaise still present? ]

[ Kallamar was having a hard enough time sleeping, even if he got a bed to himself because two people in his cabin like sleeping on the floor for some reason.

The feeling of the shockwave isn't much better. ]

Ugh. What now?

[ He wanders over, possibly having to step around any late risers, and pokes his head out the door. What wonderful sight greets him? ]

[... well, if he hadn't already been up and about, he sure would be after that. (Perks of being a morning person, he supposes.)

Needless to say, he'll be making a beeline to where the shimmer was yesterday to see if there have been any sort of visible changes to it...]

Or drink them, as it were. Waltaquin will make an early morning trip to the bar so she can pick up a vodka red bull for exploration energy. Er. To explore the bar area.]

[ Passing by little Xiao and heading to the garden to see if anything has changed there. What's up weird statues? ]

[Since our trusty manlet is so close to the ground, he’ll notice a trail of conspicuously glowing flower petals along the footpaths leading out of the cabana area.]

[For one, he can probably see Xiao communing with deeply suspicious flora(?).]

[ Hm.

Alright. He's going to cautiously follow that trail of glowing flower petals, then. He'll get his spear ready for this, too, just in case. Where does the trail lead? ]

[As Shuda steps out of Dove cabin, he’ll notice what looks like the remnants of some kind of purple magical force field dissipating from the cabana. Hm.

As for the gazebos, absolutely no trace of anything shimmering is left. Double hm.]

[ Well, this isn't at all ominous in the slightest. Alice'll be going to the beach and seeing what's there, or maybe looming over the horizon. ]

[ magolor is apparently something of a night owl, so he was up when that fun little whip crack of reality falling apart at the seams happened. joy.

which means he also gets toppled off of whatever rooftop perch he was on in the main resort area proper, but at least he manages to catch himself before landing?

now, to let the protag types handle it again ... or see what the hell it is now, considering the disturbance seems to have reached the entire island anyway. well, might as well take the meandering route closer, passing by the pool first.

Since he's not magically-inclined, he won't be able to sense anything from it, but he can at least look for any potential source. About how large a force field are we talking about here?]

[It was just around their one cabana, but it’s gone now! Apparently Shuda stepping outside signaled it to fade.]

[He's carefully stepping around Xiao and his investigation of the weird new flowers (good luck small buddy) and heading directly towards the buffet area. Thankfully not to eat (yet), but let's make sure it's all still here ]

[I should also note that the feeling of malaise has disappeared.

The trail is leading towards the garden, perhaps unsurprisingly. He may meet up with Wang Lu on the way, and Kallamar is bringing up the rear, so they’re a proper parade now.]

[Unfortunately for Kallamar’s botanist endeavors, the flowers vanish as soon as Xiao passes them following the trail.

They’re pink and amaryllis-like from observation, though!]

[Interesting. Would it have resonated with his Dark Bring at all in terms of having any sort of dark/evil aura to it?

And presuming there's no obvious source anywhere nearby for him to find.]

The fact they vanish so suddenly doesn't seem very good...

Why is he following after Xiao? Chalk it up to instinct. ]

At the pool, he'll probably see Crea! And absolutely nothing else, not even a seagull taking a dip.

That said, the fauna on the island does seem pretty up in arms since the shockwave -- it certainly disturbed the birds, they're rustling and calling up a storm out there. At least it seems most of them are present and no longer hiding?]
