INVESTIGATION(?)

Exciting night, no? Were you able to get to sleep, or did you stay up into the wee hours, seeing that far-off shimmer near the gazebos and listening to the rising rumble of whatever-that-is and wondering when it would come for you?

At least, when dawn finally comes and the shimmer is overcome by the rising light of the sun, it seems that last night wasn't the end. For you.

Instead, once it's morning proper, there's a shift -- like the breeze and the smell after a bout of sudden summer thunderstorm without the storm: the pressure and the oppressive atmosphere of yesterday is gone, just like that. But also: accompanying it a few seconds later is a clean whipcrack of sound, like giant hands clapping together. And a moment after that, you'll feel something pass overhead -- you won't be able to see anything, but anyone outside at the time will find themselves staggered by what seems to be a small shockwave spreading throughout the island.

That's not the only change that awaits you this morning, however.

You might want to get out of bed, if you haven't already, and take a proper look around.

Hmm. Wouldn't have been my first choice.

[ She just kinda ignores Merlin for right now, looking at the rest of the garden. I see in the Great Body Hunt it's pretty messed up, but just to reiterate for easy access, what's going going on here at first glance as she looks around? ]

[There's that pesky small crater next to Merlin, of course -- it's not too much bigger than Merlin himself, but looks like it was made with some amount of force, and there's what looks like a fault line leading towards it from closer to the garden entrance.

Most of the destruction is in this localized area, statues, foliage and all.]

There's nothing in the crater right now, is there? Or laying around in the rubble nearby? ]

[SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT. I am a serious modship conducting a serious murder investigation(?).

The crater is indeed empty at the moment!

As for elsewhere, some of the statues are intact, but many are in two or more pieces. It looks a lot like their bases gave out.

Possibly more importantly, there's something moving behind one of them.]

Is there any kind of indication of whether the statues were shifted due to whatever assumedly-earthquake-based activities were going on here? Or it was knocked into?

[It seems like most of the statues knocked over were near the fault line and disturbed earth.

But, again more importantly, when Alice tries calling out--

Something small, white and fluffy comes speeding out from its hiding place in a blur. It moves so fast that that's about all she can see before it leaps up, bounces off the top of her head, and books it out of the garden like it's on fire.

Can you really blame it, though?]

She lets out the highest pitch yelp as Fou jumps her, wildly swinging her crop and easily missing as it uses her head like a springboard. ]

HEY –

[ She whirls around, immediately having forgotten about what she was doing and tunneling on that white little fuck. rip to merlin and all that but now it's personal. ]

Get back here, you little twerp!

[ fyre i'm so sorry she's going after him. is fou just gone or is there actually a point to trying to follow him. ]

Just when it looks like she might be catching up to the creature, it disappears in a flash of light. Afterward, no matter how she searches, it will be nowhere to be found on the island.]

[ damn it. and she would've gotten away with it, too, if not for that meddling whatever the hell it is...............

After a short while she just kind of. Shows back up, heaving a bit as she wordlessly goes back to the garden. The fault line starts near the entrance, is there anything there that might show what potentially caused it? ]

[That's a negative. The fault line starts seemingly out of undisturbed earth, then expands outward until it hits the crater.]

[ Cool. Is there anything else to find in the area, or is the rest of the stuff pocket-based? ]
