INVESTIGATION(?)

Exciting night, no? Were you able to get to sleep, or did you stay up into the wee hours, seeing that far-off shimmer near the gazebos and listening to the rising rumble of whatever-that-is and wondering when it would come for you?

At least, when dawn finally comes and the shimmer is overcome by the rising light of the sun, it seems that last night wasn't the end. For you.

Instead, once it's morning proper, there's a shift -- like the breeze and the smell after a bout of sudden summer thunderstorm without the storm: the pressure and the oppressive atmosphere of yesterday is gone, just like that. But also: accompanying it a few seconds later is a clean whipcrack of sound, like giant hands clapping together. And a moment after that, you'll feel something pass overhead -- you won't be able to see anything, but anyone outside at the time will find themselves staggered by what seems to be a small shockwave spreading throughout the island.

That's not the only change that awaits you this morning, however.

You might want to get out of bed, if you haven't already, and take a proper look around.

It's his blood. Tastes the same as it smells.

[He's gonna let Billy take over on the actual body, but let's take a look around the point of impact. Is there any blood trailing across the ground? On the foliage? Or is it all contained to the body itself?]

[There's definitely blood around Merlin -- there's blood in the crater next to him, on the ground and foliage around him... it's quite a mess!

You'll notice, though, that the blood next to him makes odd patterns on the ground. More specifically, some of it looks oddly ring-like; the pattern is concentrated mostly around Merlin himself, though it trails down partway into the crater.]

[Huh.

Ring-like as in a donut shape with a cleared hole in the middle?

Does it match the holes Billy just found on Merlin's back? Or are the patterns completely different?]

[Nah, ring-like as in what you get when you put a coffee cup down on a table: essentially looking like red circles dyed into the dirt.

The rings in the pattern are larger than the holes in Merlin's back.]

[Is there any impression of force into the dirt with the rings, or just blood staining?

Is it all roughly the same color? Does any of it look like its dried faster or slower than the rest, or does it look like whatever made this happened all at once?]

[There's just the rings of blood. Alice has got most of the earth disturbances down there, but overall it looks more like the rings overlap with those rather than connect to them.

Most of the blood is roughly the same color, yes! Seems like most of this happened at the same time.]

[Working with Billy on possibly taking some pictures with his D.D.D. to record the scale, please hold.

How far is Merlin's body from the crater?]

[It's very close to it! Not right next to it, but it's enough for some of the blood to cross over.]

[He is not smart enough for this, rip.

Outside of the weird ring crossover, is there any other blood in the crater? Or does it look like all of this bloodloss happened outside of it where Merlin is now sitting?]

[There is a little bit of blood splash in the crater, but the majority of it is concentrated around where Merlin is sitting.]

[Picture time. He's going to get a couple D.D.D. shots of the rings alongside Billy's crowbar, as well as a shot of Merlin's back with the same thing. Sorry, Merlin.

Since Alice is back and investigating the fault, he's going to climb over to double check behind some of the plants, especially back where there's been statue damage. Anything of note back in here?]

[While Beelzebub is presumably manhandling Merlin to get his pictures, something small and jingling falls out of his robes. Jackpot??

As for the foliage and statues, there may be some stray pawprints back there, but that's about it.]

It doesn't taste like someone else, at least not right here. That's what I was wondering, if someone else got injured.

Not sure about that now, though. [Now that Billy's unearthed Merlin's back looking like Swiss cheese.]

Reckon we're lookin' for someone strong enough to leave a crater who'd think to make a bundle of stakes to skewer folks. Plenty of bastards here that could leave the crater, it's the fuckin' swiss cheese holes that needs some thinkin' on...

[He's fishing out his network device, but also what looks like a second entire smartphone from his jacket.]

Your profile said you had a crowbar. Do you have that on you?

[Billy pulls out the crowbar. If it's a little over an inch wide, how does it scale compared to the rings of blood in the crater?]

If it's a stake, it'd be wider at the base than the pointy bit. But then what, did they smash 'im in the ground while they were diggin' into his back to finish the job?
