WEEK ONE, SATURDAY

INVESTIGATION(?)

Exciting night, no? Were you able to get to sleep, or did you stay up into the wee hours, seeing that far-off shimmer near the gazebos and listening to the rising rumble of whatever-that-is and wondering when it would come for you?

At least, when dawn finally comes and the shimmer is overcome by the rising light of the sun, it seems that last night wasn't the end. For you.

Instead, once it's morning proper, there's a shift -- like the breeze and the smell after a bout of sudden summer thunderstorm without the storm: the pressure and the oppressive atmosphere of yesterday is gone, just like that. But also: accompanying it a few seconds later is a clean whipcrack of sound, like giant hands clapping together. And a moment after that, you'll feel something pass overhead -- you won't be able to see anything, but anyone outside at the time will find themselves staggered by what seems to be a small shockwave spreading throughout the island.

That's not the only change that awaits you this morning, however.

You might want to get out of bed, if you haven't already, and take a proper look around.

(( OOC: Welcome to our peace week Saturday event, islanders! Please note that this will be run similarly to a normal investigation, but will not be a full investigation. As such, everyone is welcome to explore for the first part of the event, and then we will take a limited amount of people for the second half, investigation-style. ))

That's right. We didn't find anything left behind in the area.

Billy thinks it could have been something like a stake. The wounds on Merlin were a lot smaller than the rings left behind.

Was there evidence that the administrators were physically present in the garden? Any footprints or other signs?

Not that we found, no.

The only prints I ever found were small animal ones. I'm assuming that's the creature Alice saw.

Hm... I wonder if they might have made use of some of the automatons that run things at the resort to carry out the killings on their behalf... though I am unsure as to why there would have been so much irregularity in the sizes of the wounds in that case.

Maybe they used magic.

Something like an earth or plant spell, that they could get rid of quickly.

If they were not present in the garden themselves, could they have performed such a spell at that great a range?

[ most tomes only have a range of 1-3 spaces... ]

...Though I suppose that is not unheard of, and there is the matter of how they managed to bring us here in the first place.

Theoretically. If this island weren't affecting my Dark Bring's powers, I can tell you for a fact that I could kill someone a continent away if I wanted to.

Assuming they had either a similar ability or a similar item, it's not so hard to imagine that they might be able to do the same.

[ damn ]

I see. That does put things into a different perspective, then.
dancing_flames: (Don't even think about it)

[personal profile] dancing_flames 2023-05-21 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Mm. But it would only stand to reason that if my abilities were lessened to that effect, it would be the same for others as well. I'm having a hard time coming up with a reason why they would put limits on some of our powers but leave others intact if their entire intent was to have us kill.

I can come up with at least one good reason for certain kinds of powers being limited: they don't want us to leave.

The more lethal ones, though, your guess is as good as mine!

[personal profile] dancing_flames 2023-05-21 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Logical, but it wouldn't explain why they limited mine. Mine have no purpose for anything other than combat.

[Just nodding along with Shuda.]

We also don't know that they weren't there. They just didn't leave footprints.

If they have some sort of flight, they could have been right there and still been capable of a lot.
