WEEK ONE, SATURDAY
INVESTIGATION(?)
Exciting night, no? Were you able to get to sleep, or did you stay up into the wee hours, seeing that far-off shimmer near the gazebos and listening to the rising rumble of whatever-that-is and wondering when it would come for you?
At least, when dawn finally comes and the shimmer is overcome by the rising light of the sun, it seems that last night wasn't the end. For you.
Instead, once it's morning proper, there's a shift -- like the breeze and the smell after a bout of sudden summer thunderstorm without the storm: the pressure and the oppressive atmosphere of yesterday is gone, just like that. But also: accompanying it a few seconds later is a clean whipcrack of sound, like giant hands clapping together. And a moment after that, you'll feel something pass overhead -- you won't be able to see anything, but anyone outside at the time will find themselves staggered by what seems to be a small shockwave spreading throughout the island.
That's not the only change that awaits you this morning, however.
You might want to get out of bed, if you haven't already, and take a proper look around.
(( OOC: Welcome to our peace week Saturday event, islanders! Please note that this will be run similarly to a normal investigation, but will not be a full investigation. As such, everyone is welcome to explore for the first part of the event, and then we will take a limited amount of people for the second half, investigation-style. ))

[Ding dong, the
witchwizard is dead. The mood is depressingly somber, much too quiet, but Lobelia doesn't seem quite as disturbed by this news as the others.]That is the risk you run when you boast and brag... but who knew we would end up with a body on our hands so soon?

I understand that we were all prepared for this possibility, but... Some tact, please. There is nothing 'bien' about this.

Unfortunately, I suspect this will become a part of our daily lives from now on. Try not to let it dishearten you, Lacus!

I'm used to death. I have seen many perish, some of whom who were quite dear to me. To continue onward even so is not the problem.
The real challenge is to not allow yourself to become numb to it.

[They can.......... agree on this, but it's clear to Lobelia that their reverence for death comes from two very different places.]
Take heart, Lacus: I don't intend to make light of Merlin's downfall. It it's the truth you seek on his behalf, we'll no doubt find it.

Understanding what it is that killed him is our first step to preventing more bloodshed... We don't yet know that it was a fellow islander at all. For all our safety, it's best to make certain of that one way or another.

[And he's all for the criminal in this case getting caught... but there's a reason for that. One he's certain runs contrary to what Lacus' definition of justice is, so Lobelia stays his tongue and doesn't say anything unnecessary.]
I will contribute what I can to the cause of justice once I've had an opportunity to look at the évidence. I am the brighest mind in the Skydom, after all.

[ The few words of French she knows can come in handy, if only to match Lobelia a little bit. ]
Though... if the cause of death rests with one of us, we're going to be forced to confront just what 'justice' even means to us right now.

I suspect it does, given the nature of Merlin's injuries. As for my conclusion, it's best that we wait until we've gathered up all the evidence just to be certain.
[In so many words? Lobelia has already settled on his answer. He is, by his own measure, a genius, after all.]

Our captors did state their desire for a sacrifice every week. It's very likely that the abnormalities occurring on the island leading up to it were related. A symptom of the island needing more power, if they were being truthful about that...

[The damage done in the garden could've been wrought by someone among the flock, but the shimmer? The otherworldly display they witnessed yesterday? Stronger forces were surely to blame.]

[ listen, he didn't know merlin too well, but well enough for that to be possible in crea's mind. ]
The question is, was Merlin dead before yesterday's event or after?
no subject
[Not that he can blame them for singling out Merlin. He was pretty obnoxious (affectionate), after all!]
Ah, but I believe a proper investigation will shed light on what happened. Accounting for everyone and checking their whereabouts is a good place to start, non?
