WEEK ONE
WEEK ONE
29 Vacationers
As much as this vacation was unplanned, hopefully you've found some time to enjoy yourself this weekend as you've settled in. The idyllic beach, all inclusive food, drink, and shopping might be almost enough to distract you from that pesky talk of sacrifice. Vacations really are about letting your worries pass you by. Hopefully you've found the time to set up your U-PINION too, because if you haven't, it's been chirping incessantly since the date turned to Monday. And come Monday at noon, everyone's device will let out a pleasant jingle, heralding several announcements across the screen:
Happy Monday! We've hope you've been enjoying your time at Sungem's Peak. The Mermer (intranet) is now fully operational. Chat with your friends and get recommendations for how to best enjoy your vacation, by:
- Reading about your fellow vacationers via their profile
- Chatting on the network
- Asking honest questions via our anonymous poll system
- REQUIRED: Reading the RULES set by the administrators
The artificial peppiness of the announcement just oozes out from the U-PINION, and soon thereafter everyone will be accosted by a friendly robot that forces a physical copy of the rules into their hands anyway. Just in case. They'll also present a copy of the tasks this week as well, for any interested parties.

Father made us.

Oh! When you put it like that, it sounds like something out of a fairy tale.

[Don't they usually curse people and make weird rings in the forest.]
What do you mean?

Yeah, we know a few. The story of the kids in the house made of candy is the one I remember best.
Most of those tales come from humans, though. The ones that circle around home tend to be more like ghost stories.

[ ... ]
Um... are most people not human, where you're from?

The Devildom is for demons, after all.

[His head tilts slightly, free hand slipping into his jacket pocket as his other tilts his glass back for another drink.]
You're surprised?

[ She sits back, pressing one fist to her lap. Time to bury a slightly sheepish expression in her drink. ]
Demons are more like a fable where I'm from. I suppose it should be obvious not everyone here is human, but it's still a little surprising to me.

I think that's okay. As far as I know, most humans go their whole lives without realizing we actually exist.
[He gives an easy shrug.] You weren't rude. Don't worry about it.

If we were still in the Devildom, that would be a shock. But I've been around lots of humans plenty of times before.
It's not a bad surprise. I'd call it... nostalgic?

[ She can't remember all the profile ages, but some of them were... lots. ]

Yeah, it has. I'll go up once or twice a century now for errands if I'm asked, or to help one of my brothers if he's gotten himself into trouble with a witch somewhere. But it's never for very long, and nothing like this.
