As much as this vacation was unplanned, hopefully you've found some time to enjoy yourself this weekend as you've settled in. The idyllic beach, all inclusive food, drink, and shopping might be almost enough to distract you from that pesky talk of sacrifice. Vacations really are about letting your worries pass you by. Hopefully you've found the time to set up your U-PINION too, because if you haven't, it's been chirping incessantly since the date turned to Monday. And come Monday at noon, everyone's device will let out a pleasant jingle, heralding several announcements across the screen:

Happy Monday! We've hope you've been enjoying your time at Sungem's Peak. The Mermer (intranet) is now fully operational. Chat with your friends and get recommendations for how to best enjoy your vacation, by:

• Reading about your fellow vacationers via their profile
• Chatting on the network
• Asking honest questions via our anonymous poll system
• REQUIRED: Reading the RULES set by the administrators

We're also happy to announce our reward system is live! Complete tasks to receive special items to improve your stay!!! Contact your administrators for any questions or concerns. We hope you have a wonderful week!

The artificial peppiness of the announcement just oozes out from the U-PINION, and soon thereafter everyone will be accosted by a friendly robot that forces a physical copy of the rules into their hands anyway. Just in case. They'll also present a copy of the tasks this week as well, for any interested parties.

Tell you what, I'll pretend I didn't say that. By all means, glib comment away, my dude.

Nothing quite so meaningful, no. Our usernames are easily traced back to the owner no matter what they are called.

Now that I have stated my intent, there's no point in making the comment. So I will simply say that mine is named after myself simply because I had never interacted with such a device in my life. It is now my understanding that these usernames are aliases of a sort?

Of a sort. There's nothing saying you can't just use your name as long as no one else has already taken it.

But sometimes people like to pick more fun things, things with meaning to them! More than just their names, anyway.

I see. Something personal to the user, but not so plain as their own name. Yours is a reference to your occupation, in that case?

Of a sort! It's not much of an occupation in the sense that it's a job or anything, but it is what I do.

A fair distinction. While my travels have not been quite so vast as exploring beyond the stars, I do know the life of a traveler. Was there any particular catalyst that set you out on the proverbial road?

Honestly, I kind of always have been on my own, pretty much? So I think it really was more that I didn't really have much tying me to anywhere in specific!

I did spend a lot of time in a place that'd been pretty dusty and abandoned for a long while now. There were a couple of interesting finds there, but ... not much worth staying for once I found the means to leave.

You've never found traveling companions to join you?

It's fine! You get used to it after a while! It's not like I never saw anyone or anything like that; you meet and hear about all sorts traveling the way I do.

And it does make you appreciate whatever friends you do end up making more, I guess.
