WEEK ONE
WEEK ONE
29 Vacationers
As much as this vacation was unplanned, hopefully you've found some time to enjoy yourself this weekend as you've settled in. The idyllic beach, all inclusive food, drink, and shopping might be almost enough to distract you from that pesky talk of sacrifice. Vacations really are about letting your worries pass you by. Hopefully you've found the time to set up your U-PINION too, because if you haven't, it's been chirping incessantly since the date turned to Monday. And come Monday at noon, everyone's device will let out a pleasant jingle, heralding several announcements across the screen:
Happy Monday! We've hope you've been enjoying your time at Sungem's Peak. The Mermer (intranet) is now fully operational. Chat with your friends and get recommendations for how to best enjoy your vacation, by:
- Reading about your fellow vacationers via their profile
- Chatting on the network
- Asking honest questions via our anonymous poll system
- REQUIRED: Reading the RULES set by the administrators
The artificial peppiness of the announcement just oozes out from the U-PINION, and soon thereafter everyone will be accosted by a friendly robot that forces a physical copy of the rules into their hands anyway. Just in case. They'll also present a copy of the tasks this week as well, for any interested parties.

[ pausing his folding to look out at the group ]
While it would be nice to think that "deepening bonds" would prevent any killings from taking place, I suspect that those most likely to act are not so easily swayed by friendship.

Wouldn't it be great if that were true? But, even I know better than to assume anything like that!
[ Friends and lovers kill each other all the time. But gosh he's not going to say that. He's supposed to be all smiles and all that. ]
Though, thinking about it...there's another bonus to all of this gathering as well. Can you guess what it is?

[ A laugh, but then a silly hand wave. ]
Even if people don't have any intentions to get close to each other or taking advantage of the information, distractions are valuable for being exactly that too. Some people can make up their own. Always.
But is it the case for everyone?
no subject
...I would not argue that these events cannot be valuable for other people. I have seen the way they've lifted the spirits of some of my allies over the course of the war, and I appreciate that.
They simply do not serve that function for me.
[ and so he ends up here with this pile of napkins, distracting himself from the distraction. ]

Haha! In retrospect, I can only say that's fair too. People will always have different things that work better for them, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that, either.
Though, out of curiosity...of all the things you've found yourself doing, have you ever found a certain favorite?
no subject
...Part of why I try so many different things is the hope that I will find one that I feel strongly enough about to sustain me. As much passion as I put into all my pursuits, I have yet to find any single one that reaches that level.
no subject
Well, that's alright. Many people go through their lives searching for a something that will resonate with their heart.
[ Even if Zelkov has been hesitant in answering, Merlin offers no judgment. He finds the idea a bit fascinating. He's sure that there must be some history behind it as well. ]
I'm sure you will find that one pursuit that matches. But, we have extra time right now on our hands, right? So, is there something else you have been looking to pick up? Maybe I can help you in pursuing your fulfillment~

Access to most supplies is limited here, so the options are limited accordingly.
[ he pauses to consider this for a moment. ]
I have been curious about the kinds of pursuits in which people from other worlds might engage, which I might be unaware of. Perhaps I should put it forth as a question on that network soon.
Though if you have ideas yourself, I am certainly open to hearing them.

Hmm...I suppose we do have a lot of various limitations, yes! Though with our two minds working together, the possibilities are limitless, aren't they?
[ A thoughtful hum as he considers his answer, even if of course he already has it, judging by the little knowing smile that turns his lips upwards. ]
You should! There a good number of people here, so you would capture a variety of different and interesting answers. Some that might help with your own pursuits.
Maybe I can show you some little tricks? Something like when we met. Sure, I use magic to do mine, but...even without that there are ways for people to manage, of course. How does that sound?
