As much as this vacation was unplanned, hopefully you've found some time to enjoy yourself this weekend as you've settled in. The idyllic beach, all inclusive food, drink, and shopping might be almost enough to distract you from that pesky talk of sacrifice. Vacations really are about letting your worries pass you by. Hopefully you've found the time to set up your U-PINION too, because if you haven't, it's been chirping incessantly since the date turned to Monday. And come Monday at noon, everyone's device will let out a pleasant jingle, heralding several announcements across the screen:

Happy Monday! We've hope you've been enjoying your time at Sungem's Peak. The Mermer (intranet) is now fully operational. Chat with your friends and get recommendations for how to best enjoy your vacation, by:

The artificial peppiness of the announcement just oozes out from the U-PINION, and soon thereafter everyone will be accosted by a friendly robot that forces a physical copy of the rules into their hands anyway. Just in case. They'll also present a copy of the tasks this week as well, for any interested parties.

It would be good data to have, but if a direct physical hit made it larger and doing something non-physical that far away also made it react, then a direct non-physical hit might be worse than either individually.

Hm, you could be onto something. If it specifically wants to be fed with powered individuals as a sacrifice, it makes sense that it would also try and take any kind of power released in the air.

I don't think, even for data, releasing more magic in the air would be wise. At least not directly into the haze.

While I think it would be helpful to be able to confirm or disprove our suspicions, I believe our starting hypothesis is enough to go on for now. The potential risk may be much greater than the value of the information we would obtain.

[By the time true night falls, the shimmer of the warp is visible from halfway down the island due to the darkness and the slow and inexorable increase in its length; the noise level has also increased from what it was before, from an ominous thrum to a low rumble. Still, it doesn't seem to be a problem with the ground so much as the air.

The oppressiveness of the atmosphere continues, like the pressure before a storm, but there's not a cloud in the sky. The moon almost seems to make the distortion sparkle more, in fact.

Slowly, slowly, the ocean twists and turns through the mysterious lens of something that isn't supposed to be there, but isn't going away anytime soon.]
