WEEK SIX

WEEK SIX
16 Vacationers

Throughout your time on the island, there's been a steady rhythm; the murders, the trials, the executions, the clean-up afterwards that leave just up remnants for you to remember what was lost. This Monday morning though, things are different. The debris and any biohazards are cleared, but no effort has been made to repair the games at the arcade, or to restock the chemicals and damaged equipment at the laboratory.

Odd.

If you cast your eyes to the sky, you'll also notice that the distortion is also lingering—there's certainly less of it at least, a haze still lingering over the go-karts, one whirlpool lingering out in the sea. It could be worse, surely.

Though there's no new locations for you to take your mind off of all these oddities either. In fact, looking at your device to access the resort map area and scrolling past Kakapo's Nest triggers an error.

There’s one more, slightly more eclectic change: the kittybots, instead of having cute kitty ears and faces, are now without exception round-headed. This would make them look like ordinary robots, but their heads actually now look like a bowl of fish swimming, which occasionally form up into expressions. A change of pace for everything, it seems.

!

U-PINION fiddling + Some Billy-sourced Info with chai's blessing

[ chai is napping and will be back later for follow up therefore ]

Oh, yeah. Walt asked the other day, so I got a little more curious about if we could do anything with these, but...

[ holds up his birdaphone. behold, flappy missingo. ]

I've managed to create an abomination to flutter its way gently through the nonexistent wind of that little game we've all got, but that's pretty much all I've managed so far on that front. If we want to mess with the computers or network or whatever we probably need to get right on in there rather than hope we can do anything from the outside!

Other than that, apparently! Our friend Bills here has gone and visited at least part of their secret lab before, through a secret entrance on the golf course.

[ is that one of the ones that are on the map from this morning? oh well. magolor would be surprised if they didn't brick that up... or if they didn't, maybe they expect that to be an easy way to catch them all in one place? tunnel collapse sounds like such a fun way to go. ]

He's mentioned that he had to go through two security tunnels or something to even get into the lobby, and at least some of the doors down in it are locked via fingerprint scanner.

I guess it's worth mentioning that it doesn't seem like they're all that fussed by loose ends or the idea of Bills blabbing anything to us, considering they haven't done anything about him, and his visit was apparently nice and peaceful and not like, bag over someone's head levels of secret, so. They're probably more than a little confident in their setup down there, whatever it is.

[ or it's a trap. but they're long past the point of worrying about that now, aren't they? ]

And here he told me that he was not about to let any of us walk into their secret lair... Well, maybe the lobby doesn't count as the core yet?

[ Still, how rude of him to be so misleading! ]

A fingerprint scanner is an electronic lock... I don't know if Mr. Pink's hacking capabilities are powerful enough for that, but it could be worth a try in absence of other options...?

*IT WAS A HANDPRINT SCANNER PLEASE PRETEND MAGOLOR SAID THAT

[personal profile] microtransactions 2023-06-22 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm honestly surprised they didn't knock him out to bring him there! But it does raise the question of whether they would have left that particular entrance usable— a probably not is my vote.

I think we established the other day our options are kind of slim when it comes to that kind of thing, right...? Short of chopping one of their hands off or getting something else that has their prints all over it, anyway.

I am still a little bit unsettled that you and I appear to be our best bets on that front.

Temenos said he wouldn't mind learning, and I bet he's not the only one, but...

I mean, I'm not opposed, but like. I don't know about you, but without anything hands on to demonstrate with safely and not under critical or time-sensitive conditions, I don't think I could teach anyone anything all that meaningful in that short of a timeframe?

It's the same for me. I have some aptitude because two of the people closest to me are extremely skilled programmers, and because I've worked on a spaceship bridge for a while, but...

I'm not in a position where I'd be a very good teacher even if there was time. A lot of it is... a little like instinct, to me? [ #JustCoordinatorThings ]

Yeah. Most of my aptitude is because I'm the only crew for my own ship, so it'd be a pretty good idea to learn and pick things up or else. Maintenance, programming, all that.

Not like the people who originally built her are around anymore to ask, so a lot of it was just ... me, figuring things out?
idologue: (076 surprise; interested)

[personal profile] idologue 2023-06-23 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
The only crew...? That sounds incredibly exhausting!

I don't think it would even be possible to man the ships in my world with just one person... Only smaller short distance vessels.

You said entire civilizations live on ships like the one you live and work on, right? The Starcutter isn't exactly a short distance vessel, but she's definitely not like, an entire colony-sized. So that kind of helps?

Still, I imagine in the past there probably were more people to crew her ...

Wouldn't mind taking the chopping off route.

You and others, I bet.

But that's easier said than done! Since if they're stuck behind the door we can't get through without their hand, well. You know.

[ nevermind how easily anyone will be able to chop their hands off, considering it sounds like overhaul can just powers his hand back on if beel was any indicator. ]

If they got multiple, that’d track with them not wringing their hands too bad over a hostage knowin’ where one is.

Gettin’ a feeling that the one I saw was mostly for the business table, and their goose eggs like the weapon and the way home are stuffed deeper down.
