WEEK 5
WEEK FIVE
21 Vacationers
The weekend sure was something, wasn't it? Tempers flared, explosions burst, and some were treated to an immersive sand bath experience. Come Monday at least, things seem quieter though not in the unnatural still way—the distortions on the islands have receded sometime in the night (with some impressive firework-like booms that may have stirred your sleep, at that; and the waves seem a little higher this morning) and the various amenities on the island have been made orderly again. Though, as always, some traces remain in the landscape; the waterfall looks like it has seen better days, though it's no longer in danger of coughing up debris on your head if looked at wrong.
This week like the rest brings new locations for you to explore, on Kakapo's Nest though it seems like only one of them really fits the vacation vibe. Hope you like snow!
!WEATHER ALERT:
Bulletin:
Starting Monday morning and continuing throughout the week, pollen counts will be elevated. This is expected to last until late Thursday

Said prize is standing up near the front, goading on two members of the Lan Clan to drink. Immediately, your gaze falls upon Lan Wangji. Your eyes always seek him out, so it's no real surprise that it takes you less than a second to spot him, sitting elegantly as he glares at the cup of liquor sitting in front of him. For a moment, Lan Wangji looks like he's about to say something, but you quickly snatch his drink from right in front of him and down the entire glass, setting it back down with a smirk. ]
I drank on his behalf. Are you happy now?
[ Others around the hall exclaim surprise as you were not invited and ask when you arrived. Your focus stays trained in Jin Zixun. ]
Just now. I'd like to speak with you right now.
If you've got something to say to me, come back after my family's banquet is over.
I'm afraid I can't wait that long. [ There's a bit of a back and forth before finally— ] Fine. I'll ask here. Do you know someone by the name of Wen Ning?

Something about this feels like a dream. Yet, knowing otherwise, it's obvious it is more than that once the ball gets truly rolling. A memory, and the identity of which becomes clear amongst all these thoughts once the owner of it begins to speak.
The whole little episode with drinking snatching up someone's drink seems kind of amusing to him. But, afterwards...
...Naturally, he can only be incentivized to continue.
What else will play out as his part of being 'Wei Wuxian' here? ]

I'm sure you do. Last month while Night Hunting, you entered the settlement of the Wen Clan's surviving members—or rather, where they're being detained. You captured a group of Wen disciples. He was their leader.
If I don't remember, I don't remember.
[ Jin Zixun all but waves you off, and it stirs anger within you, especially as he dismisses you the more details you give him. When you demand he give up the act and hand them over, the two of you start shouting and force the Jin Clan head to involve himself to try to calm matters down.
You bite back that the Jin Clan is turning into the Wen Clan, that there's no difference in the way they have ruled since the end of the Sunshot Campaign. The others around you don't take kindly to this sentiment, and you laugh. ]
Bite the ones that bit you, but Wen Ning's branch of the family was never stained with innocent blood. Are you just punishing them by association?
[ Your words start another round of arguing over their innocence, which you strongly state you don't need to prove. Eventually, your hand flies to your flute as you pick it up, giving them an ultimatum—tell you where they are before you finish counting to three. Everyone in the hall knows what carnage you're capable of with Chenqing, and a panic runs through the room.
They finally scramble to give you the information you desire, and you promptly leave. ]
Well, now. That wasn't too hard, was it?
[ You leave a stunned atmosphere in your wake before finally meeting up with a woman you owe almost everything to—Wen Qing. ]
Found them. Let's go.
[ Wen Qing scrambles to start moving and trips over herself, but you catch her and tell her to go rest. She refuses, telling you that she needs to be there to find Wen Ning. You can sense the guilt radiating off of her, and so you reluctantly let her follow you.
By the time you get to Qiongqi Path, it's dark and rain has begun to pick up, creating a dreary atmosphere. Alongside a road with a row of makeshift shacks, you spot an old woman slowly hobbling along, carrying a toddle and a flagpole that's much too heavy for someone her age. ]
Granny!
[ Wen Qing runs ahead before you can stop her.

Details of the reason for this incident are still missing.
Curious, Merlin wonders what kind of scene will be viewed before them next—answered simply by the change in appearance, as if setting the stage for a tragedy.
Perhaps even a thought like that is too premature. But is it, when there's nothing less than already a dreary backdrop with those who appear to be in an unfortunate position—even if there's only two thus far.
Regardless, letting things stand in murky waters is unacceptable. So, continuing along it is! ]
cw: gore
Wen Qing charges ahead and is stopped by an overseer, who starts to question her. She tells them that she's looking for someone, but they only tell her to get out, even waving a branding iron that looks suspiciously familiar to the brand scarring your chest to encourage her to leave.
Even as the overseers deny seeing anyone similar to her brother, Wen Qing continues to provide a description, pleading with them to tell her where he is. ]
Why don't you go looking for him? Everyone we have is here.
[ You finally step forward. ]
I'll grant you that all of the living are here. What about the rest?
[ They tell you that no one would dare take a life, but you don't believe them and instead pull the flute from your waistband. The sight of Chenqing clears the crowd around you as they back away in fear, having heard tales of what your flute is capable of. You bring your lips to the flute, playing a single, shrill note before pulling it away from your lips.
Before long, someone in the crowd asks: ]
What's that sound?
[ A flurry of shrieks and shouts accompany the crows as they scatter again, revealing shambling figures in tattered clothes slowly making their way towards you.
In the front is Wen Ning, deathly pale and with part of his chest caved in. Wen Qing runs over to him, desperately feeling for a pulse, but when she doesn't find one, she starts to weep before the grief overtakes her and she faints, falling back against you as you catch her. ]
...Who killed him?
[ Your tone is soft and even, but the overseers hurry to deny any wrongdoing. All you can do is smile. ]
Do you rerally think that I wouldn't be able to tell how someone died? At this point, you better just tell the truth. Who killed him? Step forward on your own, or I'll have no choice but to kill everyone here. I'd rather kill someone by mistake than let the culprit off the hook. No fish will slip through the net if you're all dead.
[ Fear seizes all of them. ]
The Jiang Clan of Yunmeng and the Jin Clan of Lanling are on friendly terms right now... sir, you can't...
You're very brave. Are you threatening me?
No, no, of course not.
Congratulations. You have successfully exhausted my patience. Since none of you will tell me, let's hear his answer.
[ Wen Ning's corpse jerks and he grabs two of the overseers and holds them high up in the air by their throats. ]
Wen Qionglin, make everyone who did this to you suffer the exact same fate. I give you permission to repay them in kind!
[ The scene quickly turns bloody, screams piercing the air as Wen Ning rages about, killing as many people as he can get his hands on. You pick up Wen Qing and calmly walk through the scene, unbothered, until one of the captives stops you and tells you about a house where people are held captive.
You thank him and immediately head in that direction, kicking the door open to the house once you get there. Immediately, they recognize Wen Qing.
That's confirmation enough for you and you start to order them on horses. You're taking them away from here.
And just like that, the memory shatters into nothingness. ]

What an unpleasant memory. But, all the same one that Merlin is watching as every single moment passes him by.
Why wouldn't he? He is committed to seeing this all through to the end.
But, it isn't like it will make him think adversely of Wei Wuxian either—not at all. Even as he induces a kind of unforgettable bloody rage in Wen Ning's corpse, blood and gore following in his wake while Wei Wuxian moves with his unconscious friend.
Those actions are justified.
Though, when it finally ends, he wonders what Wei Wuxian thinks of these moments now... ]
