WEEK 5
WEEK FIVE
21 Vacationers
The weekend sure was something, wasn't it? Tempers flared, explosions burst, and some were treated to an immersive sand bath experience. Come Monday at least, things seem quieter though not in the unnatural still way—the distortions on the islands have receded sometime in the night (with some impressive firework-like booms that may have stirred your sleep, at that; and the waves seem a little higher this morning) and the various amenities on the island have been made orderly again. Though, as always, some traces remain in the landscape; the waterfall looks like it has seen better days, though it's no longer in danger of coughing up debris on your head if looked at wrong.
This week like the rest brings new locations for you to explore, on Kakapo's Nest though it seems like only one of them really fits the vacation vibe. Hope you like snow!
!WEATHER ALERT:

THURSDAY
meeting
It's a little late, but we should all meet up.
We have a couple of things we need to share with all of you.
Meet up at the bar at [XX:XX]
Bring snacks!
[ Wang Lu couldn't prepare for the meeting properly and the reason is his left arm being in a sling. Hello. ]
If anyone wants to play any games, I would suggest waiting until after we share our news. [ Then it's a free country. ]

Our opponent yesterday was nothing, I believe, like the beast encountered at the waterfall. It was Xiao, the woman who wielded fire. We came upon her in a transformed state, ransacking the planetarium. She was like a dragon. [Quin pauses for an appreciative little chuckle... in all honesty Xiao's true form had been quite striking.] I suspect the power she displayed was more in line with what she possessed before arriving on these islands, if not more so.
When she died, she returned to how she had been. Based on a small bruise located on her arm, likely she was drugged. She had bled considerably from the nose and mouth, and acting on my suspicions I checked inside.
Her tongue was blackened.

Ah, well. Forgive him for how unusually shaken he looks. Either way, it's back to business. ]
...Just like Wei Wuxian.
[ Who almost fell, too. ]

Unfortunately, she was unable to speak in a way that any of us could understand, so we were unable to glean any definitive information about her circumstances beyond what was visible to us.

So... what.
There's a drug somewhere here that boosts abilities to the point where they go out of control?

I saw Xiao-san [apparently] at the planetarium with everyone, but I saw a trail leading to the snow room. It looked like it had been wrecked a bit, probably by Xiao-san... being a dragon and everything.
There were two sets of footprints in the snow, and they both looked like they belonged to people taller then me? I think one might have been Xiao-san's, because it looked about right, and the other was even bigger.
[He scratches his cheek.]
But I think the most important thing we found was a used syringe. It was totally empty, so I don't know what was in it, but it didn't look like any that I saw before at the lab or anywhere else. [It was a very nice syringe, apparently.] It was labeled, though, with that word "KRATOS" again. I don't... want to jump to conclusions, but...
[It does seem like someone got jabbed and things didn't go well!!]

ANYWAY
for much of the day after the meeting zelkov will be in the (grape-free) lab, reading through a pile of chemistry books earlier on, and later, working on... some kind of sticky looking concoction.
at another point, he'll be at the bar mixing up a very different kind of experiment as he tests out some variations on and additions to the current DD refresher recipe. feel free to make suggestions, which he... may or may not take, but will certainly evaluate!
otherwise, you might find yourself experiencing any of the memories listed in the comment that will be posted below this one — feel free to experience any of them, either in his presence or otherwise! ]

PLOT SCENES
Bar + Yunaka A
He's not exactly chatty when he shows up at the bar, either; he just takes a seat and watches Zelkov working his magic with the refreshers rather than asking for anything for himself. Until he gets interrupted by what he quickly realizes are some of Zelkov's memories, that is, and his eye opens slightly as he watches them play out in his mind. Even though this isn't the first time this week this has happened, it's still a bit of a disconcerting thing to experience, and it takes him a moment to gather his own thoughts once it's over.
At last, he breaks the silence.]
Do you regret any of it?

For a little while, you may be able to tell yourself that this perhaps is the week where the islands' distortions will give it a rest. You've already laid one of yours to an eternal rest, after all, sending her off in a manner much more dignified than the last creature that stormed the beaches.
Right around afternoon, though, as though on cue; right about after lunch (so at least you might have had a good one) the familiar hush seeps back in. It's hard to detect at first, with everyone awake and rowdy, but it's there in the background from a moment to the next. It muffles everything for the encroaching storm.
There's that familiar low-pitched rumble once the sun has dipped towards the horizon, working itself up in pitch and frequency. Those on Kakapo's Nest may notice that the quality is a little different than usual -- by the time the stars are out, it's easy to see the shimmer across the water by the island's shores, a vast veil that looks just like marine fog. But that's not where the sound is coming from. Three large whirlpools have formed not far from where the island meets the sea, dark maelstroms that seem to swallow the stars. Moreover, something almost like cries emanates out of them -- like the discordant laments of a thousand sirens in a blender, maybe? Something like that. Good thing you'll be able to sleep through that tonight, right?
Meanwhile, a more sedate state of the warp has settled over Seagull's Playground, crouched over the go-karts as though knowingly. Is it protecting them from further harm? Or daring those who will be out and about tonight to come closer, ever closer? Some karts get knocked out of their spaces and go skidding into the track like bumper cars, but it isn't quite as grand a scale as Kakapo's little showing.
Dodo's Outlook, meanwhile, isn't spared by virtue of having had a dragon trample all over it yesterday. Unfortunately. Winding fingers of the distortion creep up from the shore to wrap themselves around the theater like a mantle -- there may be cracks appearing in the columns here. Best to keep an eye on it.]
