TRIAL

You all know the drill by now even if things are a little different today, with the two deceased and the shuffling of the announcements. Things are much the same at the sandbar though, kittybots setting out seafood as the theme for this week, along with every flavor of mountain dew under the sun, including the energy drink kind. (food mod note: this is actually on brand MTN dew for once!).

Off to the side in a booth of their own are the bodies as well as attendant kittybots; simply request which body you'd like to look at and the kitty bots will direct you appropriately, as if it's difficult to tell the difference between a squid and a giant robot. Maybe they're just there trying to be helpful, they're doing their best. .

(( OOC: Welcome to your third trial! You'll have 7 hours (8PM EST/5PM PST) to vote one (1) person guilty of murder. Since this is scapegoat style, finding the correct killer is not mandatory!

In which case, we have a second culprit to find and the heaviness of two crimes to weigh against one another.

If it ain't Kanon, those scorch marks could've come from Skywarp's lasers? Which would put us back at square one for his killer.

It would've been hard to come out of a fight with Skywarp with only a scratch... wouldn't it? I really think it probably wasn't Kanon.

[idologue]

Maybe we should return to the culprit profile I've attempted putting together earlier... someone physically strong and in possession of a power that could sever his leg.

Though the mystery of the go-kart is another thing entirely... Maybe someone who didn't know how to drive it so they moved it through alternate means?

[ A nod! ] Someone who could make those puncture wounds on him, too.

[ She pauses for a moment and then adds a little more softly: ]

I don't think Crea is wrong. But I think Skywarp deserves the truth, too. Even if it doesn't make our situation any easier.

Or maybe they just didn't want to sit next to the robot that would bleed all over them, knowing that Beel could probably sniff it out from a mile away. Or they didn't want to leave anything like fingerprints on the wheel or fabrics or hairs or something on the seat.

There could be a decent few reasons for it.

The tracks were already zigzag beginning at the actual go-kart range, right? They'd have had a decent amount of foresight to make sure they use the kart the same odd way from the get-go.

Just thinking that maybe getting fingerprints on the wheel would be a bad idea is enough. Maybe they didn't know beforehand they'd have to haul Skywarp to the theater, but the other things are pretty reasonable, right?

Seeing as you agreed with me on this before, Magolor, I will bring it back up: There are people here who are able to move things with an ability. I would imagine using the go-kart without actually driving it would be part of that.

I do not enjoy having to do this. It is inherently unfair. If you have a way of getting out of it, please speak.

I don't have a way out. If I did, I would have chosen it from the start, instead of going after Kanon. But it's your reasoning that irritates me.

[ he tilts his head to the side, observing. ]

What are we going to do, once we find Skywarp's murderer? Are we going to sit here and ask the two of them their reasons for it? Are we going to choose which one of the murderers we like the most and which one we like the least, and choose from there? I'm sorry, but that's even more insulting than voting the first person we find.

[ Lacus just nods at this. ]

I agree with you. It may not have been clear from my tone, but I abhor what we have to do now.

[ Her original statement was very much intended as spiteful rather than 'welp let's get to business', but she is not the most tonally expressive person... ]

But to not solve his murder and simply vote out Kanon because she is the one who's identity we confirmed, would mean sowing distrust among us from here on until forever - a killer would be in our middle, unknown.

If that's the case, then I agree. I'm sorry if I came on too harshly. I'm a bit on edge. Everything about this gives me bad memories, for some reason.

[ he sighs, trying to relax. ]

I'd hate to look at you guys wondering whether or not someone decided to do a murder. So for that purpose, I do think that we should continue the search.

My personal rationale would be to vote for the one most likely bring harm to someone again. Though not ideal, I think it is the most logical way to make a choice, and the one that protects the most people.

If you cannot be content with this, I understand. But this is how I will make my decision, if we do uncover the identity of the second killer.

That is probably the closest to impartiality that we'll be able to get from this farce of a trial system. At least none of us are fooling ourselves about this being 'justice'.

I agree. It will be a heavy judgment call to make, but we'll know who to keep an eye on for the future.

If Skywarp's murderer were more obvious, I'd be pursuing them too. But once we find them, how are we going to judge both of them to see who's more sinful?

Well, we probably aren't. I imagine we will condemn Kanon regardless.

Trying to vote out whoever's the "most sinful" or whatever doesn't work until it turns out to be someone they're close to, right? ♡
