21 Vacationers

The weekend sure was something, wasn't it? Tempers flared, explosions burst, and some were treated to an immersive sand bath experience. Come Monday at least, things seem quieter though not in the unnatural still way—the distortions on the islands have receded sometime in the night (with some impressive firework-like booms that may have stirred your sleep, at that; and the waves seem a little higher this morning) and the various amenities on the island have been made orderly again. Though, as always, some traces remain in the landscape; the waterfall looks like it has seen better days, though it's no longer in danger of coughing up debris on your head if looked at wrong.

This week like the rest brings new locations for you to explore, on Kakapo's Nest though it seems like only one of them really fits the vacation vibe. Hope you like snow!

[ It's night time, there's a beautiful woman leaning against a pole of a red gateway. She straightens up as soon as she realizes that someone is approaching. It's a pretty girl dressed in pink and a little bit of blue. They are holding up a handkerchief and acting the shy maiden as they stand before the woman. ]

Miss, do you know how to get to the governor's office? [ Anyone with an ear could recognize the voice. It's Wang Lu. ]

Miss. Are you blind? [ The woman says as she indicates where they are. Then she looks Wang Lu over. ] Be careful or you might get assaulted.

[ Wang Lu makes a sound in response. ] Look at who I am.

[ The woman lifts her hand up to bring down the pink handkerchief to get a good look. Wang Lu flutters his lashes and then looks at his Master to give a wink and his usual air kiss. His master, Wang Wu, smiles. She then turns him around to look him over and turns him back. ]

You're so cute, I like it! [ She pinches his cheeks (face). Wang Lu let's out a quiet laugh at that.]

I'm beautiful, right?

Yes. [ She gives a nod. He seems proud of his handiwork and then goes back to playing the part of a shy maiden. ] However, I need to remind you. Even though training in the mortal realm is important, you're putting yourself in danger. It seems like a big sacrifice.

[ Wang Lu swings his handkerchief at her. ] You're so bad. [ He shields the lower half of his face once again. ] I am not selling my body, just my skills.If that old lascivious scum makes a move on me, you must help me instantly. [ Wang Lu makes a face to emphasize his next words. ]Otherwise, I'm doomed.

[ His master wears a surprised face, but it's clear she's being dramatic on purpose. Seems familiar, huh? ] Ah? Are you going straight in? That sudden? Earlier, you even made me prepare so much.

[ They both move in at the same time to bounce in place, wink and point at each other.



Then Wang Lu walks away.]

[Well, going from memory to reality is super disorienting!

He takes Xiao’s hand, taking a deep breath and then letting it out slowly.]

[You wake up in a parking lot, alongside Billy Butcher. He seems confused, but immediately starts to head into the Tony Cicero’s restaurant nearby, not paying attention to the staff and going straight for a kid’s menu and a crayon, hurriedly jotting down something. As he does, you hear the television say something, well, concerning.]

”Federal authorities have initiated a multi-state manhunt for William Butcher, for allegedly murdering Vought Vice President Madelyn Stilwell as well as endangering her infant son Theodore. Law enforcement officials have set up a tip line and anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts..”

[The server looks at Billy and, by association, you.

[Shuda has been keeping to himself even more than usual since the execution. Much like Nona, he's taken to wandering aimlessly around the islands, partly to keep his distance from the others and partly because he doesn't know what else to do when he feels so very useless.

When he spots Nona, he almost turns to leave, to give both of them some space. He was the one who had uncovered Kanon's guilt, after all... he can't imagine he's someone she would really like to see right now.

But running away would be taking the cowardly way out, and so he inhales, then exhales in something resembling a sigh.]

... I'm sorry. About Kanon.

That's nice of you. [Nona says pretty quickly, looking up at him and giving him a somewhat concerned look.] But I really don't blame you and I don't think you should blame yourself either.

[People say sorry when others die, and they mean "I feel sorrow for your anguish", but in this case, she can tell there's a more pointed guilt to it.]

We all killed her. Me included. You were just trying your best. [It's an awful game, but she can't blame anyone for playing it. Sonya was right, generally.]

I don't regret what I did.

[It's not a lie. She had killed; all he had done was reveal that fact. Kanon had set the wheel of her own fate in motion, and it was entirely possible that it would have ended the same way even without his involvement. He'd merely sped up the process.]

But you cared about her.

[That's the part he feels bad about. Nona of all people doesn't deserve the sorrow her death brought about, as terrible a person in many ways as Kanon had been.]

[Even though they've barely even spoke. Her love is universal. As universal as it can be. And she can see the pulsing organ beneath his chest that proves he's alive, proves he's gentler than he allows himself to be.]

Her life made me feel sorrow... her death was just an awful process capping it all off.

I've never seen anyone hate themselves so deeply.

[Those words don't come as a surprise, not really. Not that he feels like he deserves them right now, but that isn't something he'll say aloud.]

Some people spend their lives searching for a reason to keep existing. And sometimes they decide on the wrong one.

[He knows he certainly had for a while, and he'll forever bear the scars from his mistakes.]

Sometimes they don't realize it until it's too late.

Why does there need to be a reason?

[It's so puzzling to Nona, who loves life so deeply, she just can't understand why you would fester in such misery.

Although, maybe she understands. Living amongst this pain and heartache.]

I think we just exist, and that's okay.

I don't think she was looking for a reason, though. She wanted love. She just wanted it from someone she shouldn't have, I think.

[ Lacus still feels a little out of place at the arcade - she belongs in gardens, under the open sky, doing aesthetically pleasing things. But she's still been in here a fair amount in the last few weeks, mostly playing Mario Kart on a weirdly high level of proficiency.

Spotting Ibuki, she's approaching with a smile. ]

He infected you with his hobby too, huh?

[ Ibuki looks up from whatever game he's playing and waves hello. While he may usually prefer wandering the outdoors, there's something about the charm and difficulty of retro games he's grown fond of over the last few weeks. ]

Hmm? [ He goes down a list of people in his mind who have talked about video games with him, but he decides that's not the important part of what she's asking. ]

Well, I do like new experiences. I've never played video games like this before we all arrived here. [ Like a lot of other things. And not counting anything done at the lab, of course. ] I think it's rather refreshing to have an obvious end goal.
