21 Vacationers

The weekend sure was something, wasn't it? Tempers flared, explosions burst, and some were treated to an immersive sand bath experience. Come Monday at least, things seem quieter though not in the unnatural still way—the distortions on the islands have receded sometime in the night (with some impressive firework-like booms that may have stirred your sleep, at that; and the waves seem a little higher this morning) and the various amenities on the island have been made orderly again. Though, as always, some traces remain in the landscape; the waterfall looks like it has seen better days, though it's no longer in danger of coughing up debris on your head if looked at wrong.

This week like the rest brings new locations for you to explore, on Kakapo's Nest though it seems like only one of them really fits the vacation vibe. Hope you like snow!

—the dragon seemed all but prepared to strike immediately at wang lu's snarky ass, but the fog zelkov manifests is useful for a number of reasons. it's definitely enough to counteract the lingering effects of the dragon's flames pricking at their skin, bringing relief there... plus it gives them a moment longer, as xiao doesn't immediately barrel in there.

keyword being immediately. there's no sense of strategy or caution to be had here, as the dragon barrels headfirst into the fog. it snaps blindly without vision, the light of its flames making its presence and movements quite clear. ]

But hm. Two sets of footprints... Can he tell what size they are? Like, comparing his own feet (he's 5'6", so probably around a size... 9??? idk that's what google says), are the sets bigger, smaller, or comparable to his own?

Waltaquin's own dragon might struggle to navigate the difficult terrain, and most anything else she might cast would give their direction away... What's a girl to do? She could try something that might stun her long enough for a risky frontliner to get in.

Blessedly able to pinch her lips together enough to not unleash an unhinged giggle, unlike her ingame attack line, Waltaquin will simply...

Call a meteor storm down right over Xiao's head. Given her size and location, the are of effect is probably small in comparison - a third the size of Xiao's body, maybe half. It'll be hot, sorry to Wang Lu, but at least it probably won't hit him.

ditto to the foot comparison question since josh is about a size 7 thereabouts/smaller than haruka no I don't care what square enix graphic arts say, so that's two sets of shoe size checks!

incidentally, can they tell what kind of footwear made these prints? like tread marks and stuff?

also, footprints have to be going somewhere, right, where do they lead? in different directions, the same directions, or do they stop abruptly? ]

Taking a lesson from the fight against the Grape Nomu, he isn't going to Leroy Jenkins this and rush in. Instead he'll bring his sword down to the ground and send an energy wave towards the flame he sees in through the smoke.

He hopes that's the dragon. If it isn't... he didn't do it! ]

[ Can't believe Josh doesn't have mickey mouse shoes? One pair of foot prints are much larger, if we're talking shoe size we're looking at 11.5~ or so, and to translate since I don't trust shoe continuity across countries, they'll match to someone who's 6 foot or taller. Obviously not Skywarp tall but rest in peace Queen.

The other pair of prints are larger than Haruka and Josh's still, but smaller than the other, belonging to someone who's 5'9".

The footprints don't really lead anywhere, but they don't vanish either, they basically look like some kind of scuffle happened at some point, the tracks getting messy after that. The snow is not kind enough to give distinct treadmarks, but they look to be from your standard pair of shoes and not anything unique like heels or what have you. ]

[There’s so many people on this island taller then Haruka, that narrows it down by not much at all. There’s also so many people on this island over 6’ tall, so again - not narrowed down by much.

Hm. He’s going to assume one of the prints is pre-dragon Xiao, but maybe we’ll all be surprised.

Well. Time to start digging through the snow and see if he can uncover anything, because they’re either dealing with teleportation or someone is in this room with them still.]

[ smh my wording bc this is a non-dd refresher day, but the reason there's no tracks in or out is likely because the snow has been melted in the entranceway (starting from the xiao dragon shaped melt in roughly the middle of the room). so yes, there's evidence of dragon'ing happening in here.

...i as a mod, am thankful haruka was not digging with his hands. because what he kicks up with his boot sure is a used syringe. be careful with that.

as for other things which aren't a sharps hazard, the more Josh looks around the more he'll see it's obvious there was a confrontation here; the snow machine wasn't turned off, but it looks like it was dented. It's nowhere near as wrecked as the planetarium is, but there was something afoot here for sure. ]

[ dragon and meteor and energy wave on dragon violence, more like. the combined force of the energy wave and the meteors seems to be somewhat effective. there's a moment where it stumbles... or something to close to it with the way the light of its flame moves, coupled with a roar of pain. how much that actually managed to wound it remains to be seen, given the whole fog and hitting it from far away thing.

but it was the dragon! good job.

the ranged attacks seems to give it an idea, however, and it moves towards what it assumes to be their general direction. the light in the distance brightens, increasing in intensity, until...

you guessed it right. dragons breathe fire, and they're getting fire. it moves along the fog, aiming to force them to move and reveal where, exactly, they are. ]

Is there anything left in the syringe at all? Or anything on it that might make it clear what was in it? Would be nice if these things were labeled, huh.

He’s taking a picture of it, but he’s not going to pick it up just yet because it’s not like he has anywhere to store it right now.

[In the planetarium, they were easy targets. Out in the open, even with Zelkov's fog...there's nothing for them to pin themselves behind. This really is a pickle.

She's exerting herself quite extensively by now, but she easily has the juice to keep their haste buff up. Waltaquin peels off from the others, moving in a direction counter theirs. As something of an AOE expert, she knows that clustering is certain death.]

When did I become such a weakling... [It's annoying. She's annoyed!

And she will need at least a turn or two before she has the capacity to cast another bigger spell. It's probably worth it!]

He's going to send energy up his blade again to prepare for another strike, and then something bright starts coming towards them. He's going to move at the dragon's breath and aiming to swing his sword through it to break through the fire putting him closer to the creature as well as in firing range! ]

He's smart. Really smart. His bedroom is full of books, and he spends a lot of his time reading stories or teaching himself new curses to use. He also really likes cats. Maybe a little too much. But it's nice to see him happy around them.

[He's not sure when that started, really, but it's none of his business.]

His temper is still bad. He's the Avatar of Wrath, after all. But he's found ways to live with it, and be one of our brothers. It's still a little hard with Lucifer. I think that's always going to be difficult for them, since Satan was a part of him for so long. [hwat] But they've really been getting along a lot more recently.

[ yeah, while haruka is getting jumpscared by the syringe hiding in the snow, josh is going to look at the snowmaker! what kind of damage are we looking at specifically and how busted up is it? he's def taking pics of the damage because chronic teenager syndrome of needing to Document Things On Phone.

... just to confirm that while the snow is melted in the entranceway, there are no fire marks in the room from the dragon-ing? :worry: ]

[ While there's nothing left in the syringe, there is a label on this one. And it bears a name Haruka will recognize too: KRATOS with a stylized bird logo of a sungem. Actually, said syringe looks extra fancy? Of a better quality than he would have seen in the lab here.

Looking closer, there are some scorch marks but nothing that indicates a blazing inferno. Be the teenager you totally are Joshua.
