The events of the past weekend, the past week, may linger on your mind as you awaken to the sun rising on your third week on Sungem's Peak. The rays of the sun are welcoming as always, and so are the amenities, and the new island— Kingfisher's Retreat.

The theme this week certainly seems to be relaxation and excitement, perhaps with a mind to distract all vacationers that your number has decreased by two. Or maybe you're the type to take a plunge in the name of your sacrificed vacationers? Either way, there's plenty of do, including more tasks for the objective minded.

Dear:
How are you enjoying your vacation? Are you missing your friends or family back home? Write them a postcard and post it on the bulletin board!

Gifts:
Everyone loves gifts, so this week give one to someone else! It can be a physical gift, a gift from the heart, or any other kind of gift.

Take a Plunge
Take advantage of the waterfall, cold plunge, or even plain trust with one another. The point is to take a leap of faith together!

Oh, then I shall let you struggle with it a little longer.

[Extremely mean girl of her to not help him sort out his text message conundrum, but he's the sort who would slap her hands away before she ever had the chance to touch his things, isn't he?]

I'm surprised they speak so readily to us, given their apparent disdain. I don't usually strike up casual conversation with people I want to see dead.

Their stated motive is to escape at any cost. If that means they must supply regular sacrifices to keep this realm from imploding, then so be it.

Not that I would foolishly trust either of them to not have ulterior motives for the island in the first place-

It seems the weekly tasks were not assigned by our captors.

[She takes a moment to process this, then nods.]

Well, now that you've said it, it makes perfect sense. Those tasks don't sound like them at all, do they?

Did they tell you where they might have originated?

Allegedly most of them are, and I quote, "default quests the robots have."

So we are not the first group to be staying here...?

That's feasible...more than that, it's likely. They are quite accustomed to what they need from us, and [as she and Wang Lu have been discussing] these islands are intended to house a great many more than our paltry number.

This is only conjecture, but I'd go so far as to say the machines might predate either all of this killing business entirely or simply our hosts.

Hm... That does little to explain the sacrifices unless this island previously fed on those it could lure in with the promise of "vacation."

As for those machines... I do not think they have been around that long. Maybe fifty years at most? I cannot be sure.

[Waltaquin crosses her arms in thought.]

I think it was for vacation, but at some point that more pleasant and mundane purpose was eventually usurped by an event...perhaps one that caused the anomaly and brought our captors here in the same swoop.

Which do you think is more likely: That those two came to this island when the machines already existed here, or that they built them themselves?

[She's trying to imagine either of those men having taste that encompasses catbots. It isn't working.]
