Execution

Come Sunday morning, another announcement rings out through the island, though you probably have a better idea what it's about, and of the person speaking on the other end. According to your administrators, two sacrifices per week are required, and that time has come.

Unlike earlier, the kitty bots won't force anyone to go, but they will cheerfully inform all island goers that the execution is starting soon and they shouldn't miss out! The sandbar has also reappeared, a fitting enough stage for condemning a life as well as taking one. Both your administrators are present, along with two figures directly in the middle of the amphitheater.

(( OOC: Executions are voluntary except for the executed and executioner. The path back to the island will also remain for the entirety of the execution, so characters may leave whenever they wish as well.))

When they said this would be by execution and to save our urges for retaliation, I didn't think they had meant it this literally.

I suppose it further confirms how below the bar they're content to sink to.

And who their target audience is.

[It's said casually. Watching the drop of the harpoon to the sand, he doesn't plan on moving. Xiao seems to be confident she can do this on her own.]

Our captors, I'd imagine.

[They're right there, and everyone has seen firsthand what Shigaraki can do.]

[He shakes his head.]

Not what I meant.

No one's protesting right now, for either of them. Even from this far a distance.

Maybe more of us are already accepting this more than we think we should.

[Ah, so that's what he meant. And it gives Temenos pause, too. His shoulders sink a little bit as he stops to think...]

Perhaps some of us accepted it from the very beginning.

[gluttoning]

[What a wonderful thought.

He falls quiet, though, as flames erupt from the sandbar. There wasn't much changing things now.]

[Quietly:]

I think it's more than just that. I think they're using this as a way to get a firsthand look at our abilities.

Hmm. They should be familiar enough with how they operate to write such detailed information on our profiles, but I suppose you could be right. Studying and observing are two different things.

[dancing_flames]

[He nods.]

We know they certainly don't lack the ability to handle this part themselves if they wanted.

[dupiety]

Indeed. However, there is an additional psychological impact to having us carry out the execution. The longer this goes on and the more we come to know one another, the more difficult these trials and executions will become. I would not be surprised if lowering our morale enough to stop resisting is part of their strategy.

[The admins know what they're doing.]

[... oh, he hates this. He hates that Temenos is probably exactly right.]

... using our own emotions against us. I can't even say I'm surprised after what we've seen of them so far.

[He is, unfortunately, far too familiar with these tactics.]

I'd actually rather it was one of us.

[It's said quite seriously, even for someone who's been having a better time here than most people. She's watching the set sandbar respectfully.]

I don't fancy giving them more power than they've already got, seeing as they've already made themselves arbiters of the law.

I certainly can't discount that perspective. At least some of our potential executioners would prove to be far more respectful than they would, such as Xiao before us.

[May they never let Lobelia be executioner, though.]
