TRIAL

Whether you investigated or decided to take it easy, before you know it the speakers crackle to life instructing you to head to the beach. This is a demand not a request, and anyone who doesn't comply will find themselves forcibly moved there by the kitty bots—even if it takes a whole swarm of them.

Once you get there, you'll see that this isn't quite a beach party, instead a gigantic sandbar dotted with some type of constructs has risen out of the sea and tides. The path to the sandbar is solid enough even if it is relatively narrow, and once you arrive you'll find that you're far out in the ocean, way farther than it's comfortable to swim.

And once everyone is gathered, the pathway recedes back into the sea leaving you trapped here, all twenty-eight of you. At least there's ample seating, a kind of amphitheater made of sand with space in the middle for grandstanding or dramatic revelations. Though the area is mostly open, there are lone pieces of sand wall around the edges, maybe to dissuade you from tossing someone into the ocean without stopping you entirely. Thankfully, a lone outhouse rests again one of the walls just in case you need to use the bathroom, though it's not much in the way of actual privacy.

Settle in, get comfortable or just complain about all the sand you'll be tracking back, if you make it back that is. There's still another sacrifice to be chosen after all according to your administrators and—

Maybe you've noticed there's no palm trees or speakers here? It's just you, and the sand. For now.

(( OOC: Welcome to your first trial! You'll have 7 hours (8PM EST/5PM PST) to find the killer and send them off their death, if you believe in justice at least. Since this is scapegoat style, finding the correct killer is not mandatory!

[Well, Billy was gonna hit him no matter which way he chose.

Not even flinching at being attacked, he swings the crowbar directly at the pole of the harpoon, aiming to use the gooseneck to get a hold on it. It manages to deflect from anything fatal, but the end of it does slice a slightly grisly-looking gash into Billy's arm. He grits his teeth with a light hiss at it, but he doesn't relent on the deadlock.]

Ain't nothing fucking easy. That's the kicker, eh?

[With there not being much distance between the two of them now, Billy grins with sick adrenaline and headbutts Sonya.]

[ Man, if Billy had't been Billy he would have had some flowery prose about dreams and ideals and the state of the world. Instead he's getting headbutt and he winces, though doesn't really shout.

The reality of the City is that fights, violence, blood, death, are as common as the seasons or the weather. Still, it's not like Sonya has had any enhancements done to him to make immune from something as simple and effective as a headbutt. So that connects, largely in part due to Shuda crowding him with explosions and himself and he hits the sand pretty hard.

It's not enough to knock him unconscious though, and he's barely holding onto the harpoon at this point but he still is. ]

...it seems my wishes have run out. [ He might be speaking gibberish or maybe this makes sense to two other people in this sandbar, but alls the same really. For now he'll stay on the ground, doing his best as he can to defend himself from a crouched position. ]

[Whew. Well, that's taken care of. Billy gives Sonya one last kick for extra measure to see if he'll let go of the harpoon (though probably not as damaging a kick as normal given he has fucking beach shoes on), and seems satisfied when he stays down.]

Well, ain't much left to argue now.

[Billy's voice is extremely casual for a guy who just got stabbed and headbutted somebody. Ah, right, the bastard nicked him. Even if Sonya wasn't probably the killer Billy would be voting for him just for the murder attempt just now.]

[ Rather than actually admit Billy is right, Sonya will stay silent, albeit with a smile.

If you don't acknowledge terrible things it's less bad? Well, something like that. ]
