WEEK 2; TRIAL

TRIAL

Whether you investigated or decided to take it easy, before you know it the speakers crackle to life instructing you to head to the beach. This is a demand not a request, and anyone who doesn't comply will find themselves forcibly moved there by the kitty bots—even if it takes a whole swarm of them.

Once you get there, you'll see that this isn't quite a beach party, instead a gigantic sandbar dotted with some type of constructs has risen out of the sea and tides. The path to the sandbar is solid enough even if it is relatively narrow, and once you arrive you'll find that you're far out in the ocean, way farther than it's comfortable to swim.

And once everyone is gathered, the pathway recedes back into the sea leaving you trapped here, all twenty-eight of you. At least there's ample seating, a kind of amphitheater made of sand with space in the middle for grandstanding or dramatic revelations. Though the area is mostly open, there are lone pieces of sand wall around the edges, maybe to dissuade you from tossing someone into the ocean without stopping you entirely. Thankfully, a lone outhouse rests again one of the walls just in case you need to use the bathroom, though it's not much in the way of actual privacy.

Settle in, get comfortable or just complain about all the sand you'll be tracking back, if you make it back that is. There's still another sacrifice to be chosen after all according to your administrators and—

Maybe you've noticed there's no palm trees or speakers here? It's just you, and the sand. For now.
(( OOC: Welcome to your first trial! You'll have 7 hours (8PM EST/5PM PST) to find the killer and send them off their death, if you believe in justice at least. Since this is scapegoat style, finding the correct killer is not mandatory!

Please remember to vote before then unless you've spoken to a mod, as votes are our stand-in for AC. ))

I am not sure of how the Go-Kart functions entirely, but if the gumdrops were placed on the gas pedal, then it would have been hard to do so if they were sitting in the seat. The kart would have moved forward with them in it.

They would have had to jump out of the kart, or find another way to get out while the gumdrops were lodged. Or...they were never in the kart to begin with.

It did move in a straight line... maybe they put the gumdrops onto it over at the race course? But then they would have had to carry those over with them...

Or use an ability to help them do so, like enhanced strength or levitation.

I think the second's more likely, right? That's a lot of maneuvering involved.

Perhaps.

[ And since Alice is here -- ]

The star-shaped ball you found. They are not normally like that, are they?

Mmm?

[ She tilts her head, thinking for a second. ]

I dunno, I've seen some weird-looking ones that they give as options. I think I've seen the stars before? At the very least, it doesn't really look like it was forcibly distorted or anything, beyond the pink scuffing.

I see. Interesting.

[ He heard "ball" (no ligma) and thought it'd be round. ]

Thank you for the clarification. This may have been Chai trying to get another "high score".

Psyche said it moved in a straight line, which makes me believe someone must have driven it straight or guided it as such. The crash may not have even happened at the go-kart course and maybe Chai rode with the culprit to the golfing area for some reason or another. Or maybe they had a way of making sure the wheel wouldn't turn regardless. [ He's a game nerd, not a kart one. He has no idea how they work ]

I think they'd have had to place somethin' else on the pedal to hold it down if they weren't in the kart.

It'd have to be something with the weight of at least a foot. Or some other force.

So the kart would not have started moving until all three gumdrops were wedged there?

If...they could hold it down? How heavy were these things?

[ SOMEHOW I MADE AN ERROR -- there were gumballs in the kart, not gumdrops, so. ]

Around 1-2 kilograms. [ 3-4 pounds. ]

[ I'M NOW LESS CONFUSED ]

In that case, they wedged those on to make the cart go without 'em, yeah. Probably could have just - do these things have stick drive or what? but probably just didn't start the damn thing up until it was set to go.

I have no idea what "stick drive" means, but I suppose that is true.

It's part of how cars drive. I actually didn't see the damn thing, but there's like...
