FINAL INVESTIGATION
FINAL INVESTIGATION
No announcement, or gruesome discovery greets you today, but you probably don't need to be told that it's time to make a move given the ominous change in the atmosphere, and in the weather itself. Sometime in the night, the stormclouds have moved in, darkening the length and breadth of every island and blotting out both the sun and moon -- it seems your summer vacation has ended. What's worse, if you're looking carefully as the stormfront rolls in, you'll spot the telltale shimmer of the distortion; not just low down on the sea or landbound as it usually is, or even up in the heights as with the waterfall.
No, these seem intertwined with the clouds themselves, descending from the heavens like divine catastrophe. Louder than any thunder or lightning -- the telltale rumbling pitch of the dimensional warping is overlaid with the watery wailing you heard last week, but much closer. Multiple whirlpools have opened up around Sungem's Peak, while snaps and booming across the water belie the safety of the other islands.
Attempting to travel away from the main island will tell you the following: several of the railways have been beset and partially destroyed by both whirlpools and aerial distortions. If you manage to get far enough to see the other island destinations: the peak on Kingfisher's Retreat seems a lot lower than before. The planetarium has vanished from Dodo's Outlook. And there seems to be a small tornado cresting the back of Seagull's Playground. Is that a go-kart caught in the whorls???
Beneath the storm-driven sky, the haven of Sungem's Peak carries an audible din of future tidings as well: what whirlpools haven't set upon the ways off the island have shaved off at least some of the shoreline and, judging by how loud they are, the singing fish are not having a good time. The disturbances in the water are enough to have the tide itself receding from the shore, farther than it's ever gone: to the point where the continental shelf is exposed, baring parts of the sea floor and the island that haven't been accessible until now.
While the dead have provided you with a map, it's not a GPS; you'll still need to navigate your way into the inner workings on the island and confront whatever challenges you find, along with your two administrators.
Hopefully the encouragement of those beyond the grave will be enough to buoy you as you descend into the depths of the island, since it's just you, and the scream of the waves. (( OOC: Welcome to your final investigation! While we will provide AREA CLEARS, the choices you make here will affect end game. Good luck!))

The Thing is pretty jammed, but he may just have time to wiggle it free if he times it right and is quick. Because yes, the spell is pretty faded by now.
On the bright side, at least the one with the object (which turns out to be a few sheafs of paper) jammed in its mouth... doesn't have teeth?]

which means that if he doesn't have to worry about destroying anything important the bots are carrying... okay, time to switch gears. the shields look like they work on only one side, so he's going to step back and crouch to press his hands against the ground quickly,
in order to tear open a few star shaped rifts on the ground from which multiple magical violet spears of dimensional magic rise up to hopefully. converge and spear through the bots that are not going to be in one convenient place for much longer. he wishes they were the rainbow thorned ones but you can't be picky, yanno.
because no one ever expects an attack from below them, right, naruto proved it in an early episode vs neji so nyeh ]

The fishbowl bots are pretty much sitting ducks, though they're finally starting to loosen from their bunch -- at least one has started to roll away. But the spears are just in time, it seems: each spear manages to find a bot, or at least part of one, and at least two of them get slashed through, while the other gets bounced up towards the ceiling.
... It comes back down shield-first and bounces up again! It's like getting a double in pinball. What if all of this was one big pinball simulation all along?]

well if its shield is. aimed at the ground, instead of defending itself. magolor is just going to hop on up, aided with a teensy boost of levitation, and
wait drat he can't revolution flame or zap it with a big enough blast of magic like he wants to, too much collateral damage and he has to be precise and conserve magic here
uhhhhhhh
what if he just winds up like he's taking aim with a baseball bat, except with a sword, and swing as hard as he can towards a side that no shield or zappy things block? ]

In a funny sound rather reminiscent of a certain demon at the buffet, the hapless remaining fishbowl bot gets sent sailing alllllll the way out of the intake area entirely and into... the open lab area. There's a crash followed by what sounds suspiciously like tinkling, and then silence.
There's probably something to check out at the open lab area later, but for now Magolor is free to gloat over the carcasses of his enemies and his paper

hmmmmm, that sound. hmmmm. oops? he didn't mean to?
ANYWAY, now that these things are dealt with, can we take a look at the paper notes first?
and once he's done with that, go over to. the nothing-in-progress monitors and stuff to see if he can figure out what's up with all that, what's this stuff for? is it relevant. ]

Here are your hard-won handwritten notes, enjoy?
LOG 30.0331
We’ve solved one problem, but seemingly created a few more.
There’s now enough energy to sustain island operation and boost production of the serum and calibration testing for LELANTOS. However, the distortions to the islands themselves aren’t stabilizing at the same rate as before; or the readings were premature. Longer-term trending indicates that there is no way to bring the place to equilibrium with the current amount of people, even without accounting for foreign factors, and I doubt expending more energy for another batch will buy us that much more time.
If we look at the progress on both projects, finishing within the current deadline is more efficient than re-balancing the equation.
Time is the biggest luxury we don’t have.
[The rest of the report is a mess of calculations, many crossed out and redone multiple times. There’s a few graphs pasted to the report as well, most showing a downward trend for what look like either weather patterns or island facilities, with only a few select facilities showing upward trends.]
LOG 51.1651
Serum’s done. Finally.
At this point, just a sample of it would be enough to reproduce with the right knowledge, but it’s hard to say if anyone back home would have the expertise without the experiments and notes recorded in this facility. It’s not as bad as the time travel, but just about nothing is.
KRATOS indicates that the archipelago is beginning its final death spiral. So, just in time. And just enough energy to complete both projects, with allowance for contingencies and extra requirements. Nothing ever goes smoothly in this place.
Either way, it’ll end soon.
Either way, it’s time to go.
Other than that, it doesn't look like most of the equipment here is accessible or operational.]

yikes!
anyway that's a most, but not all of the equipment, so. can he do a quick round of the room to see if there's anything else he can find? if he goes back to the downed bots to see if there's anything else stashed in their internals?
or is it on to the open lab area... ]

.......... are they the kind of tasers that would work if they just. liberated them from the bots, or is their power source connected to the bots.
what i'm saying is, can he liberate two tasers for any normies or noncombatants who want a nice zap to add to their arsenal.
no other papers stashed inside them, though? ]
no subject
There are no tiny papers stashed inside them.]

help i'm trying to figure out the layout of the room here. so there's a desk with a really old computer on it that haruka already went through, the bio half of the room is a dead end, aaaa
oh there's area clear
ANYWAY ASSUME MAGOLOR SNOOPS AS HARD AS ONE CAN POSSIBLY SNOOP BEFORE REGROUPING WITH THE REST OF THE GANG I GUESS ]
