FINAL INVESTIGATION
No announcement, or gruesome discovery greets you today, but you probably don't need to be told that it's time to make a move given the ominous change in the atmosphere, and in the weather itself. Sometime in the night, the stormclouds have moved in, darkening the length and breadth of every island and blotting out both the sun and moon -- it seems your summer vacation has ended. What's worse, if you're looking carefully as the stormfront rolls in, you'll spot the telltale shimmer of the distortion; not just low down on the sea or landbound as it usually is, or even up in the heights as with the waterfall.
No, these seem intertwined with the clouds themselves, descending from the heavens like divine catastrophe. Louder than any thunder or lightning -- the telltale rumbling pitch of the dimensional warping is overlaid with the watery wailing you heard last week, but much closer. Multiple whirlpools have opened up around Sungem's Peak, while snaps and booming across the water belie the safety of the other islands.
Attempting to travel away from the main island will tell you the following: several of the railways have been beset and partially destroyed by both whirlpools and aerial distortions. If you manage to get far enough to see the other island destinations: the peak on Kingfisher's Retreat seems a lot lower than before. The planetarium has vanished from Dodo's Outlook. And there seems to be a small tornado cresting the back of Seagull's Playground. Is that a go-kart caught in the whorls???
Beneath the storm-driven sky, the haven of Sungem's Peak carries an audible din of future tidings as well: what whirlpools haven't set upon the ways off the island have shaved off at least some of the shoreline and, judging by how loud they are, the singing fish are not having a good time. The disturbances in the water are enough to have the tide itself receding from the shore, farther than it's ever gone: to the point where the continental shelf is exposed, baring parts of the sea floor and the island that haven't been accessible until now.
While the dead have provided you with a map, it's not a GPS; you'll still need to navigate your way into the inner workings on the island and confront whatever challenges you find, along with your two administrators.
Hopefully the encouragement of those beyond the grave will be enough to buoy you as you descend into the depths of the island, since it's just you, and the scream of the waves. (( OOC: Welcome to your final investigation! While we will provide AREA CLEARS, the choices you make here will affect end game. Good luck!))

[The fishbowl bot sure is talking to itself, or perhaps just encouraging itself along as it tries to keep up with Xiao's movements -- it's fast, although it's hard to tell where the eyes are actually supposed to be apart from the swirling fish (which might be cosmetic?), and it flips the movement of both its arms to attempt to fend him off. (The fish flip over too.)
It's not quite fast enough, and there's a squeal of metal as a gash is left in its chassis; part of the hit glances off the edge of its shield, pushing both the robot and its shield backward.]

The other thing is that he's now in prime range for its still functional electrical arm, so that's, uh, coming for him. Look out?]

... is able to parry the taser implement, but as his spear is made of metal, it simply conducts all the electricity down the shaft and into his arm. He’ll feel his arm and then his body go completely numb, but more interestingly, he’ll hear a familiar high-pitched tone that seems to come from everywhere at once. Hm.
Also, while he’s frozen, the fishbowl bot has recovered its balance and brought its shield arm back up, bashing into him to send him flying.]

Xiao hears the high-pitched tone, and he can't quite tell if he's losing his sense of self because of how numb he feels, but he's definitely been thrown hard. So hard that he crashes into the ground on his back.
He can't move. He's numb. He really can't believe that this is what he's losing to, and that he's about to die such a pathetic death, because he's fully anticipating that Shuda's too preoccupied to help Xiao out right now.
It's alright. Lacus escaped. She's safe, she has the information. Ah, he wishes he could have just said farewell, told Haruka he loved him one last time. ]

Swords are good civ, as this altercation is showing, since it's able to handily intercept the bot's next attempt at a shield-taser combo attack -- Shuda and the fishbowl bot bounce off each other much like pinballs, knocking away some of the kittybots still crowded in the middle of the room. (Honestly a lot of them have probably been knocked around like bowling pins by now.)
It does look like while the bots are well-defended and have offensive capabilities, they're not super strong nor are they Skywarp, so it's not hard to push them back if you've got enough bulk.]

... or whatever it's called when a sword contacts the fishbowl-top of a fishbowl-bot and there's a considerable CRACK of noise as it splits down the middle. It doesn't entirely bisect the bot, since there are components in the way, and it tried to bring up its other arm to intersect.
But at the very least, it looks like this fishbowl bot is finally powering down. There's a sputtering, crackling noise before everything goes dark on the display, a little smoke rising from the fissure in its fishbowl.]

The only useful creatures here are the birds and the robots.
The new arrivals are the first real successful batch, but we’ll have to keep an eye on their powers. A few duds in the bunch, but a good variety and better than before. Accuracy is improving. Also means we can buy more time with this batch and complete more studies for the projects.
The priority will be keeping them quiet and entertained despite the requirements for fuel. At least the islands provide plenty of outlets for that, though we’ll have to do something about the energy problem. That’s what they’re here for, anyway, so let them solve it.
There’s already at least one clamoring to get into our good graces. Maybe he’ll be more efficient than the robots.

Looks like Shigaraki’s little pet project, emphasis on the pet, bore some fruit. The energy expenditure wasn’t small, but better to crack a few pots. Applying gambling principles to science, huh?
Got a decent grasp on the programming and targeting for multiversal coordinates now. What a sentence. This technology might be more revolutionary than anything about the serum, but it’s almost impossible to reproduce without a ridiculous amount of necessary components. No time to buy more time, no time for time travel. And I’m not that kind of engineer. Too bad.
(Somehow, I doubt that sick society could handle time travel.)
[There’s some calculations and rough diagrams here that seem to depict some kind of machine, though it’s not totally clear what they’re for. It may be worth it to keep track of the numbers written here. There aren’t as many scribbles as in the other entries, though, for better or for worse.]
Still, there’s enough. I’ll shift focus to refining what can be sent through and finishing the serum. It’s about time we made proper use of our sample runner.]
