WELCOME

INTRO

Whoever you are, wherever you were, the last thing you remember is the salty smell of the sea breeze and a distinct tickle of electricity across your body. Enough to cause alarm perhaps, but in the next moment it all goes black, or blue to be more precise. When you stir into consciousness, those fuzzy sensations are all that you have as an explanation, though there's certainly more to experience around you.

The warm bright rays of the sun, the rhythmic cresting of the waves into the shore, the unfortunate feeling of sand sticking to you everywhere, because you're lying flat on your back on a beach without a beach towel. At least you're not alone, and at least it doesn't seem like you've been completely dumped unceremoniously, as there's orderly space between you and the 27 others who share your predicament. Whoever left you here probably could have dumped you into a pile, but they have better manners than that.

However you decide to react to your sudden vacation, you'll find that you're dressed just as you last recall and that you have at least one possession of yours on hand. Whatever else you had on you appears to be affected by baggage routing, unfortunately. You'll also find a key inscribed with a particular bird and a strange device in your pocket, ostenstibly some type of cellphone from the period when blackberrys were all the rage. A pop-up window will greet you when you turn on the device, prompting you to pick a username (this pop-up can be ignored for up to 24 hours) and also walking you through a basic tutorial on its functions. For now, it seems like the public network isn't running, but the direct message function is availiable. It ends with a cheerful blurb instructing that "For further questions and help, please contact one of the hotel staff!"

As there's nary a soul that seems to actually work here on the beach proper, it might be worth it to explore. Around the resort are robots manning the buffet, sweeping, and even making cocktails if you want to drink your problems away. While they'll answer to basic commands, provide you with a map of the island, or even be happy to tell you the weather, they're incapable of engaging in any meaningful dialogue. Any questions or demands they can't answer will yield the statement to please contact the administrators.

Whoever they may be, but they'll show their faces eventually. Probably.
((OOC: Welcome to Last Resort! Poke a mod in the discord if you have any questions. The NPC meet and greet will take place at 5PM EST/2PM PST today! ))

…I don’t think that’s possible.

[With these noodle arms?? He’d probably just embarrass himself, and he doesn’t really want to embarrass himself in the first conversation.]
divector: (ⓘ looking forward to your answer)

[personal profile] divector 2023-05-13 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly is with enough force.

[ At least the strange man didn't reply with something like "do you even lift, bro?". He then jumps down from the top of tree, coconut and all. ]

Hand it over, I'll take responsibility and open it.

[personal profile] townmusician 2023-05-13 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Thanks for not insulting him to his face, mister.

But also your ankles?? Jumping out of trees is dangerous?]

Responsibility sounds too heavy for this… It’s just a coconut.

[He hands the coconut back, though, not sure what’s going to happen next but… He has a bad feeling about this...]
divector: (ⓘ deal with it)

[ Parkour, parkour! ]

Maybe, but coconuts are worth it.

[ He carefully sets the coconut on the ground and gives it a pat for being good. ]

[ And without warning, he overenthusiastically karate chops the coconut in half. Mind the mild splashback of shell and meat now. ]

I guess they’re oka-

[…

…bruh.]

You just destroyed it!!

[ you're welcome. ]

It's fine! I should've held back more, but it's nicer to look at with a clean hit, no?
townmusician: (pic#16454333)

[personal profile] townmusician 2023-05-13 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Is this fine?

[How ripped is this guy?? Don't mind Haruka squinting at him to see if there are any muscles hidden by that coat.]

I guess it's pretty impressive you could do that, though...
divector: (ⓘ easygoing demeanor)

[personal profile] divector 2023-05-13 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as the inside is mostly intact, a little spill won't affect how edible it is. Probably.

[ He's not even wearing that coat properly, so it's easy to see he's a beanpole. ]

You could say it's a party trick. Useful, isn't it?
townmusician: (pic#16454331)

[personal profile] townmusician 2023-05-13 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
How many parties are you going to where people just have coconuts?

[He picks up one of the halves, squinting at it.]

Otherwise it doesn't seem that useful at all.
divector: (ⓘ introductions are in order)

[personal profile] divector 2023-05-13 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Raw coconut does not deserve this sideeye! ]

Oh, it's far more versatile than it looks. But you do have a point about parties...I think. I've never been to one.
townmusician: (pic#16451833)

[personal profile] townmusician 2023-05-14 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
...Really? Not ever?

[That explains a lot about this whole party trick thing, but also... huh.]

Were you really unpopular or something?
divector: (ⓘ well that sucks)

[personal profile] divector 2023-05-14 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
More like I never had the chance to go to one? The adults back then weren't big on parties.

[ Researchers aren't known for being party animals. ]
townmusician: (Default)

[personal profile] townmusician 2023-05-14 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh… I mean, I get it, kind of? I didn’t do a lot of partying when I was doing my lessons…

[He absolutely doesn’t get it.]

There’s a lot of people here, and it’s a resort. There could definitely be a party now.
divector: (ⓘ and going to make it your problem)

[personal profile] divector 2023-05-14 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, that would be funny to see. Maybe there are some sparklers around.

[ Priorities, but hey. ]
townmusician: (pic#16454312)

[personal profile] townmusician 2023-05-14 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
There has to be sparklers! We’re on a beach, and it’s the best place for them.

[He’s so confident when he has no right to be.]
divector: (ⓘ welcome to the new world)

[personal profile] divector 2023-05-14 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Point taken. Either they're in the shop, or we have to raid somewhere for them, since technically they're a hazard.

[ Would he commit a crime for sparklers? Yeah. ]
townmusician: (pic#16454311)

[personal profile] townmusician 2023-05-15 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
They’re just sparklers. They’re not that dangerous, so I bet we can just find them in the gift shop.

[The mods said they’re there, so no crimes have to be committed! At least at this moment.]
divector: (ⓘ easygoing demeanor)

[personal profile] divector 2023-05-15 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a plan to me. Hopefully that's the case, and that the gift shop doesn't catch on fire from them.

[ I, for one, am waiting with bated breath for sparkler crimes. ]
townmusician: (pic#16451849)

[personal profile] townmusician 2023-05-15 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
I don’t think they should spontaneously combust?

[Doesn’t rule out arson, though!]

I’d hope the people running this resort aren’t stupid enough to store them wrong.

[Faith is low, though.]

[personal profile] divector 2023-05-16 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Who knows, maybe one of us with no self-preservation skills will run into the shop with a match?

[ That'd make for good popcorn material. ]
townmusician: (Default)

[personal profile] townmusician 2023-05-16 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Nobody would be that stupid.

[He hesitates.]

Right?
divector: (ⓘ and going to make it your problem)

[personal profile] divector 2023-05-16 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
We'll find out soon enough! Hopefully at a distance.
