WELCOME
INTRO
Whoever you are, wherever you were, the last thing you remember is the salty smell of the sea breeze and a distinct tickle of electricity across your body. Enough to cause alarm perhaps, but in the next moment it all goes black, or blue to be more precise. When you stir into consciousness, those fuzzy sensations are all that you have as an explanation, though there's certainly more to experience around you.
The warm bright rays of the sun, the rhythmic cresting of the waves into the shore, the unfortunate feeling of sand sticking to you everywhere, because you're lying flat on your back on a beach without a beach towel. At least you're not alone, and at least it doesn't seem like you've been completely dumped unceremoniously, as there's orderly space between you and the 27 others who share your predicament. Whoever left you here probably could have dumped you into a pile, but they have better manners than that.
However you decide to react to your sudden vacation, you'll find that you're dressed just as you last recall and that you have at least one possession of yours on hand. Whatever else you had on you appears to be affected by baggage routing, unfortunately. You'll also find a key inscribed with a particular bird and a strange device in your pocket, ostenstibly some type of cellphone from the period when blackberrys were all the rage. A pop-up window will greet you when you turn on the device, prompting you to pick a username (this pop-up can be ignored for up to 24 hours) and also walking you through a basic tutorial on its functions. For now, it seems like the public network isn't running, but the direct message function is availiable. It ends with a cheerful blurb instructing that "For further questions and help, please contact one of the hotel staff!"
As there's nary a soul that seems to actually work here on the beach proper, it might be worth it to explore. Around the resort are robots manning the buffet, sweeping, and even making cocktails if you want to drink your problems away. While they'll answer to basic commands, provide you with a map of the island, or even be happy to tell you the weather, they're incapable of engaging in any meaningful dialogue. Any questions or demands they can't answer will yield the statement to please contact the administrators.
Whoever they may be, but they'll show their faces eventually. Probably. ((OOC: Welcome to Last Resort! Poke a mod in the discord if you have any questions. The NPC meet and greet will take place at 5PM EST/2PM PST today! ))

Once the dame has made her pick, any remaining space should be parceled out according to dignitΓ©. That would only be fair.

[ Stop using French!
But really, Wei Wuxian doesn't mind much. He's focused on testing out the firmness of these pillows. ]
no subject
[Sorry you don't understand him!! Lobelia isn't too particular about their rooming situation, so he'll amuse himself by watching WWX do his thing.]
"Worthiness," you might call it. "Status."
no subject
Status, you say? Would you like to use that to determine who gets a bed because you happen to have a high status, thus guaranteeing yourself a bed?
no subject
[He is but a simple boy from an unremarkable oceanside town, after all...]
What matters much more is one's intellect.
no subject
[ He's arrogant enough that it doesn't matter how he measures up to someone else. To make his point, Wei Wuxian sits down on the bed. ]
no subject
[Such arrogance speaks to WWX's utter lack of dignity, but his shamelessness is amusing enough that he'll allow him to claim the bed... for the time being. Besides, he's curious.]
Do you fancy yourself a genius? You'll find that whatever powers you have in your possession pale in comparison to my own.
no subject
What are your powers? Don't be shy.
[ He could divulge his first, but he'd like to see what he's up against here. Go on. ]
no subject
Are you familiar with the concept of audiomancy?
no subject
[ He eyes the conch. Neat party trick, bro. ]
Is that your instrument of choice?
no subject
[...Considering he's the man who invented audiomancy in his universe. They say word travels, but Lobelia imagines it's more likely some poor imitation of his craft exists in other worlds too.]
It isn't the instrument, per se, but the medium used to control it.
no subject
[ Not to say Lobelia isn't the inventor, but that's exactly what he's saying. ]
So, what exactly do you do with it? Attack others? Capture spirits?
no subject
Nothing so simple as that! With audiomancy, the possibilities are presque limitΓ©. This Gusu Lan Clan you mentioned, what purpose does their musique serve?
no subject
[ He eyes that conch shell again. ]
What is the purpose of yours?
no subject
[If that's the case, then the way they utilize their instruments isn't very different at all.]
Mine is to capture that which is fleeting: sound, and immortalize it.
no subject
[ Like taking their resentful energy. ]
So, you sit around and listen back to sounds all day?
no subject
destruction???
anyway,]
In a manner of speaking, oui, but you're grossly underselling the value of these sounds! I am not "sitting around" so much as creating an archive of the sounds of life itself. Surely you see the value in that.
no subject
Preservation is important. Is it only for your ears?
no subject
[Truly a shame.............]
no subject
Show me the new ones you make. As the inventor of audiomancy, I'm sure you can manage to gather plenty more.
no subject
That much is certain, friend!
[but speaking of.......... whomst the hell is this man]
Ah... excusez-moi, we have yet to properly introduce ourselves. I am Lobelia, the greatest genius the Skydom has ever known. And you are...?
no subject
[ He thinks it's a stupid title and wishes he could've gotten a title for a deed better than living on a mountain of dead bodies, but hey. If this guy is going to be extra when introducing himself, then so will Wei Wuxian. ]
no subject
[...And death! Still, was that a Fancy Title he just heard? Lobelia's smile broadens, curiosity glimmering in his eyes.]
Yiling Patriarch, was it? And what responsibilities does such a lofty title carry?
no subject
[ He laughs, shifting to get more comfortable on the bed. He's gonna steal the comforter later to sleep on the floor. ]
I live on top of the Burial Mounds in Yiling with a few others, and I've deployed fierce corpses along the mountainside to keep threats out. That's all it is.
no subject
[Not like Lobelia has earned all of his own, having been told from a young age that he was a peerless genius. Still... how curious. Corpses, hm?]
So you're a nΓ©cromancien! Yet more we have in common, but our magics are very different. Tell me, were you also born with a natural aptitude for your craft?
