WELCOME

INTRO

Whoever you are, wherever you were, the last thing you remember is the salty smell of the sea breeze and a distinct tickle of electricity across your body. Enough to cause alarm perhaps, but in the next moment it all goes black, or blue to be more precise. When you stir into consciousness, those fuzzy sensations are all that you have as an explanation, though there's certainly more to experience around you.

The warm bright rays of the sun, the rhythmic cresting of the waves into the shore, the unfortunate feeling of sand sticking to you everywhere, because you're lying flat on your back on a beach without a beach towel. At least you're not alone, and at least it doesn't seem like you've been completely dumped unceremoniously, as there's orderly space between you and the 27 others who share your predicament. Whoever left you here probably could have dumped you into a pile, but they have better manners than that.

However you decide to react to your sudden vacation, you'll find that you're dressed just as you last recall and that you have at least one possession of yours on hand. Whatever else you had on you appears to be affected by baggage routing, unfortunately. You'll also find a key inscribed with a particular bird and a strange device in your pocket, ostenstibly some type of cellphone from the period when blackberrys were all the rage. A pop-up window will greet you when you turn on the device, prompting you to pick a username (this pop-up can be ignored for up to 24 hours) and also walking you through a basic tutorial on its functions. For now, it seems like the public network isn't running, but the direct message function is availiable. It ends with a cheerful blurb instructing that "For further questions and help, please contact one of the hotel staff!"

As there's nary a soul that seems to actually work here on the beach proper, it might be worth it to explore. Around the resort are robots manning the buffet, sweeping, and even making cocktails if you want to drink your problems away. While they'll answer to basic commands, provide you with a map of the island, or even be happy to tell you the weather, they're incapable of engaging in any meaningful dialogue. Any questions or demands they can't answer will yield the statement to please contact the administrators.

Whoever they may be, but they'll show their faces eventually. Probably.
((OOC: Welcome to Last Resort! Poke a mod in the discord if you have any questions. The NPC meet and greet will take place at 5PM EST/2PM PST today! ))

[Temenos has been quiet until now, having been concentrating heavily as he listened to everyone's questions and the answers that followed.]

So! Let me see if I can properly summarize the situation: You two arrived here before us and familiarized yourselves enough with the workings of this resort to understand that it runs on our energy for some deranged reason. You've since elected yourselves as the caretakers of this resort and have brought us along as fuel while you work toward a solution to your being trapped here.

[All spoken matter-of-factly, because like. How else do you talk about something so completely unhinged.]

If you'll allow me, I'd like to ask a few follow-up questions.

One: What were the circumstances of your own arrival?

Two: How did you come to discover the resort's power source?

And three: You said you want us to kill each other in order to maintain the resort. For what purpose? You have the means to kill us yourselves, surely.

Glad to see we have some attentive listeners in our midst.

[Also matter-of-fact in return. So like, yeah. Looking forward to Temenos being the resident catherder.]

The circumstances of our arrival were just about as messy as yours -- we arrived at random and had no information about our whereabouts or the mechanism. We've been able to learn more about the world with time and tests, but our understanding is still limited.

[There's also this, even though the voice is being coy in this particular thread.]

As I've said, superhuman essence produces power for the resort, but we should be cautious about the way we feed it. There are still unknown variables to test.

[A heavy burden to bear...

But, hm. Oh, that sure is a thing.]

If you were brought here in a similar manner, then I imagine you didn't find the resort abandoned, given how it needs to be maintained. Am I being too presumptuous in thinking that you two have usurped this place as your own?

[As for that last bit...yeah, he's in agreement that Ho-oh needs to stop beating around the bush.]

So you'd like to have a process to this bloodshed. How charming. Care to illuminate us on this test of yours? We deserve to know that much, don't we?

It wasn't abandoned, but it was close to it -- in a sense, we were lucky we didn't arrive when it was already imploding, or worse. [there's displeasure in the tone that says, really, they would have gone with not arriving at all -- but that's a common sentiment, ironically] There wasn't much to usurp, so we used what we had on hand.

[The bush has seen worse days, but it has also certainly seen better ones. Businesslike:]

I always have a process. It's a simple test: this place's capacity, how long and how well that capacity can be maintained with this group in play. The more people we have to work with, the more different superhuman abilities and their interactions can begin to affect the island.
