FINAL INVESTIGATION

FINAL INVESTIGATION

No announcement, or gruesome discovery greets you today, but you probably don't need to be told that it's time to make a move given the ominous change in the atmosphere, and in the weather itself. Sometime in the night, the stormclouds have moved in, darkening the length and breadth of every island and blotting out both the sun and moon -- it seems your summer vacation has ended. What's worse, if you're looking carefully as the stormfront rolls in, you'll spot the telltale shimmer of the distortion; not just low down on the sea or landbound as it usually is, or even up in the heights as with the waterfall.

No, these seem intertwined with the clouds themselves, descending from the heavens like divine catastrophe. Louder than any thunder or lightning -- the telltale rumbling pitch of the dimensional warping is overlaid with the watery wailing you heard last week, but much closer. Multiple whirlpools have opened up around Sungem's Peak, while snaps and booming across the water belie the safety of the other islands.

Attempting to travel away from the main island will tell you the following: several of the railways have been beset and partially destroyed by both whirlpools and aerial distortions. If you manage to get far enough to see the other island destinations: the peak on Kingfisher's Retreat seems a lot lower than before. The planetarium has vanished from Dodo's Outlook. And there seems to be a small tornado cresting the back of Seagull's Playground. Is that a go-kart caught in the whorls???

Beneath the storm-driven sky, the haven of Sungem's Peak carries an audible din of future tidings as well: what whirlpools haven't set upon the ways off the island have shaved off at least some of the shoreline and, judging by how loud they are, the singing fish are not having a good time. The disturbances in the water are enough to have the tide itself receding from the shore, farther than it's ever gone: to the point where the continental shelf is exposed, baring parts of the sea floor and the island that haven't been accessible until now.

While the dead have provided you with a map, it's not a GPS; you'll still need to navigate your way into the inner workings on the island and confront whatever challenges you find, along with your two administrators.

Hopefully the encouragement of those beyond the grave will be enough to buoy you as you descend into the depths of the island, since it's just you, and the scream of the waves.
(( OOC: Welcome to your final investigation! While we will provide AREA CLEARS, the choices you make here will affect end game. Good luck!))

Respectfully, Billy, I'll be the one handling the sharp objects. [ :) ] If you can handle the scanner, I would appreciate it.

Fully respectful.

[Well, Billy is probably the one guy nearby who knows how to work this stuff anyway, so! Can we get this x-ray into something x-tra operational? ]
butcherspice: (the boys' face)

[personal profile] butcherspice 2023-06-24 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, fuck yeah!]

Got it up. Just put the dye in your system and move over here.

Thank you, Billy. Doctor Baizhu, would you...?

[ Do Genshins know how to do injections or is she really going to have to let Billy come at her with a needle again smh ]
solutionary: (pic#16454210)

cw injection...?

[personal profile] solutionary 2023-06-24 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[there's plenty of shady injections in genshin tyvm]

Of course. You should feel a slight pinch, but say something immediately if you feel anything more than that. We're taking a risk and assuming our captures label their materials correctly.

[It's with very practiced motions that Baizhu readies first Psyche's arm with some disinfectant, then the injection. Changsheng even slides down his arm to act as a distraction, should Psyche not want to look.]

[personal profile] chrysaline 2023-06-24 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. --Oh! Hello, Changsheng.

[ A good little friend, who gets a smile. Waiting, hm... ]

Nothing feels strange. I think we can try to check.

[ She'll head over to Billy's setup, how's it looking. ]
butcherspice: (come out of the cupboard)

[personal profile] butcherspice 2023-06-24 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Some of those'll have you off-color for a bit, keep a bucket on hand.

[Billy's tone is half joking as he uses the x-ray scanner over Psyche, focusing particularly on spots he knows chips are usually implanted like the back of the neck and the forearm. Anything?]
butcherspice: (I told them you were livin)

[personal profile] butcherspice 2023-06-24 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Bingo. They chipped you in the forearm. With these and the birds they're probably expecting us right about now.

[Just for the fuck of it, will Billy be able to see anything if he scans the same spot on himself? There may be no need to use tech to suppress powers for him, but definitely a need to track him.]
chrysaline: (39)

[personal profile] chrysaline 2023-06-24 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
They must have been expecting us by now anyway.

[ Hm, the forearm... Psyche hovers her fingers over the spot, but she hasn't yet committed to smiting it if Doctor Baizhu wants to do this more gracefully. ]

Do you think there's only one each? Would they have used the same spot? That would be easier, if they were handling a lot of us...
butcherspice: (i won't be hasty)

[personal profile] butcherspice 2023-06-24 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I only saw the one. Won't be able to tell without enough dye to see it on everybody, doesn't give you shite otherwise.

[Though he is still suspiciously eyeing his forearm.]

You’re free to scan my own arms to test without the dye, if you think you might have been an exception. [he’s going to be charitable with interpreting that look Billy is giving his arm.

Baizhu doesn’t pause for long after the remark though, before facing Psyche.]

For now, it’s best we remove yours at the very least. If you think there is more than one, we can have Billy scan again afterwards. It shouldn’t take more than a couple moments, and either one of us could heal the damage afterwards.

[Whether there’s some sutures or gauze in the kits or not, Baizhu had brought some supplies with him anyway.]
chrysaline: (58)

[personal profile] chrysaline 2023-06-24 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
[ Psyche nods, and she extends her arm with an easy smile. ]

Alright. My divinity might be delicate enough for this, but I'm not sure. It's better if you do it. Billy, do you know what we're looking for?

[ Presumably anything that looks like it doesn't belong in an arm... anyway she'll let them carry on. ]
butcherspice: (if you wanna be my lover)

cw gore? sorta?

[personal profile] butcherspice 2023-06-24 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Right. [Billy uses the scanner to double check where the chip is and then looks at Psyche's extended arm.] There's gonna be a slight protrusion right around here--[He taps his finger on the spot on Psyche's forearm.] Yep, there's the bugger. You wanna cut there and there'll be a tiny square shaped little bit of metal a few inches under the skin. Mate of mine made a whole drill and magnet to get these things out, but forceps'll do the job if you got a good eye.

It'll look fuckin' grisly. But you ain't gonna bleed out long as long as the doc knows what he's doin'.

Re: cw gore? sorta?

[personal profile] solutionary 2023-06-24 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
[ A drill and magnets… how barbarian.]

I should be able to get it out with minimal fuss, though it might not be pleasant to watch and it might feel odd. Not painful with the anesthetic cream, but you might feel some tugging.

[As long as there’s no protests or further worries brought up, it’s time for field triage. He’ll numb the area first, before carefully cutting into it and searching for the chip. Once it’s removed, it’ll be deposited in some kind of sealable container or bag or something, because gross. Also they might want to do something with it? Who knows.

Any blood will be carefully wiped away, before Baizhu lets his hands glow green with dendro to heal it. Surface wounds are fairly quick and easy, and the whole procedure probably takes less time than whatever the Lab group is currently up to.]

[personal profile] chrysaline 2023-06-24 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
[ Brightly, to both of them: ]

I'm fine. I've been stabbed before.

[ It's... a little gross, but she's going to watch anyway. Just in case they need to repeat this for more people, so she knows what she's looking for. ]
butcherspice: (i'll tell you what i want)

[personal profile] butcherspice 2023-06-24 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
[To be fair to Frenchie, you gotta improvise when you don't have the proper medical materials to find and extract a chip.]

Get into a lotta sword fights back home?

[Things seem to go smoothly, though, which Billy is mostly relieved by because of the lack of hassle.]

We got two more of these sets, so...two folks we can extract the chip out of the medically sound way.

[Which. How's Baizhu's forearm look without the dye just to check how necessary that is?]
butcherspice: (won't be long till the boys find you)

[personal profile] butcherspice 2023-06-24 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
[One day I'll cheat the medical system. One day.]
chrysaline: (8)

[personal profile] chrysaline 2023-06-24 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ Just. A little smile, because, yeah. What Baizhu said. ]

I think a more delicate approach wouldn't hurt here. I appreciate it.
